Standard Electrik Lorenz range-finder HANOVER SHOW . . . Sperry's combined speed indicator offers the pilot indicated airspeed and Mach number in one instrument, the Mach display having a digital type readout to two points of decimals. The CSI accepts the output of any standard air data system; an alternative version is offered using conventional pitot/static con- nections for air speed. STEVI (Sperry turbine engine vibration indicator) is a calibrated instrument for moni- toring engine vibrations. It is specified as standard equipment on the BAC One-Eleven, installed in the Boeing 727 and adopted by leading engine manufacturers. Sperry Phoenix recently unveiled the new C-14 Gyrosyn compass system. It provides primary navigational data for pilots and for automatic flight control and instrument sys- tems of many types, and is a miniaturized version of the remote gyro-magnetic compass system which Sperry produces in volume for airline and military aircraft. The CL7 Gyrosyn compass system is a uni- versal lightweight low-cost system. The remote azimuth reference gyro with integral amplifier is shown. The new C-12 compass system is at Hanover. This is claimed to provide dynamic magnetic accuracy at least 10 times superior to slaved compass systems in general use. Deve- loped from the Cll Rotorace gyro to form an easily portable heading reference, the new transfer gyro (SYT110) allows a known head- ing from a pre-set datum to be transferred without loss of accuracy up to half an hour after setting up. This permits pre-flight align- ment of a number of aircraft systems in a 690 matter of minutes. The ZL10 flight director computer is a fully-transistorized computer to meet all current requirements including Mach lock, pre-set rate of climb, etc. It is fully compatible with the SPL.45 autopilot system. The SPL.45 autopilot is based on the well- proven autopilots in the Sperry range. Of modular construction, it is suitable for an unusually wide range of applications. Avail- able actuator torque is in excess of 7601b/in. A pilot's controller and computer actuator are shown. Components of the Sperry Phoenix SP-40 are also present. This autopilot is installed and specified in the Breguet Atlantic, Transall C-160, Lockheed Jetstar, Grumman Gulf- stream, HFB-320, Mystere 20 and other air- craft. Examples from the Sperry range of stable platforms are displayed. An advanced Rotorace twin gyro platform of the DG/VG type, the SYP810 offers inertial heading, magnetic heading, local vertical and mixed velocity for navigation equipment stabilization. Components of SGN10 auto- matic airborne navigation and guidance sys- tems are exhibited. The SYG600 miniature gyro forms a part of the system. The series includes a low-cost 2 m.p.h. analogue system and extends to a high accuracy 0.1 m.p.h. digital system capable of operating in a com- plex integrated avionics environment. The SYG600 is a miniature single-axis-of-freedom gyro based on the Rotorace design for three- axis application in inertial platforms. More than 500 twin gyro platforms have been ordered through Sperry London for five air forces, including NATO. In addition to the instruments already des- cribed, Sperry exhibit the latest units to be included in the Sperry integrated instrument system (IIS), the CL2 Gyrosyn compass sys- tem and an HL7/T panel-mounted high- performance gyro horizon. Examples from a range of G.W. components, including a high- speed potentiometer, a high-precision poten- tiometer and a precision voltage reference unit, are also on view. Standard Elektrik Lorenz AG, Hellmuth- Hirth-Strasse 42, 7 Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, West Germany. In conjunction with five other companies in the international ITT grouping, SEL is showing a lkW low-powered mobile Tacan beacon, various types of airborne Tacan units and DME systems for civil airliners. New proto- types of radio altimeters are featured, together with a laser range-finder. The type FAB 6072 radar relay system consists of receiver and FLIGHT International, 23 April l%4 transmitter and associated PPI, employing capacitor storage to reduce band-width to a point where radar can be transmitted over the same land-lines as music and telephone com- munications. The system is fully transistorized, simple and strong. Other exhibits include VHF airborne and ground equipment, IFF and associated test sets, and displays illus- trating other systems. M. Streicher, Postfach 1049, Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, West Germany. New products in a range of motorized apron, runway and factory cleaners exhibited by this company are the type 156 and 146. The 156 is powered by a Volkswagen engine and fully variable hydraulic drive for speeds up to lOkm/hr and for two disc brushes. It can operate in very confined spaces. The 146 is intended for streets, alleys and confined areas, is very manoeuvrable, has a roller brush flanked by two disc brushes with a suction system and water spray to collect even the finest dust. Diesel engine drive is provided and the brushes are raised and lowered hydrauli- cally. A snow-plough can be attached for winter operations. Largest vehicle is the type 154 Terra-Jet which relies entirely on suction and blowing for cleaning power and is intended for use on large surfaces such as runways and aprons, either concrete or asphalt surfaced. Speeds of up to 20km/hr are possible and a separate 135 h.p. diesel engine drives the cleaner. Gravel, metal objects and dust are picked up. A snow- blower may be attached for winter use. The type 152 AW/2M is a rather smaller power- driven brush cleaner for speeds up to 15km/hr and has a 65 h.p. brush drive. Ad. Striiver KG Aggregatebau, Hamburg 20, West Germany. Near the helicopter landing site, this com- pany is displaying examples and illustrations of their wide range of airport servicing vehicles and equipment, including fuel tankers, hydrant dispensing vehicles, several types of d.c. and a.c. electrical supply and starter vehicles, fixed generator installations, and mobile lighting masts. Sud-Aviation, 37 Boulevard de Montmorency, Paris 16e, France. The following models are displayed:— Concord Mach 2.2 transport, in course of development in collaboration with British Aircraft Corporation.
