HANOVER SHOW ADDENDA engines failed. Thus, if any two hydraulic sys- tems or even two engines failed the pilot still has perfect control without so much as a split second's delay while the third system took over. Other hydraulic components include Fairey- designed and manufactured aircraft filters, and aircraft porous media filters made under licence by Fairey in Belgium; and hydraulic jacks for the flying-control surfaces for the Fiat G.91 and the Hindustan H.F.24. Components made by Fairey S.A.'s in- creasingly important Plastics Division at Gosselies on view include fairings, junction boxes, and ventilation, heating and refrigera- tion ducts in polyester-reinforced glass-fibre, for the F-104G. Powered by a 180 h.p. fuel-injection Lycoming engine the "300" has a top speed of 87 m.p.h., a cruising speed of 80 m.p.h., a service ceiling of 14,000ft; a l,450ft/min rate of climb at sea level, and a hover ceiling of 7,000ft. Range is 200 miles. "The Hughes 300 is a second-generation development of the Hughes 269A, the fastest- selling commercial helicopter on the market today," a Hughes official said recently. He added: "The 269A was first introduced on the Continent during the 1962 Hanover Show. Mass-production economies facilitated by the 400,000 m ft Hughes plant in Culver City have resulted in our being able to place a retail price of only $29,875 on our new helicopter, about 30 to 40 per cent below competitive three-passenger helicopters." Included in the range of high-pressure fluid- control valves from the High-Pressure Valves Division are hand-operated stop and non- return valves, regulator, relief and solenoid stop valves, together with thelr filters. They are primarily intended for air and gas control at pressures from vacuum to 8,0001b/sq in, and some may be used with hydraulic fluid! Three Divisions of The Hymatic Engineer- ing Co Ltd are represented on the stand of their German distributor, Autoflug, Gerhard Sedtmayr GmbH, 2 Hamburg II. Equipment shown by the Aircraft Division includes high-temperature pressure-control valves for jet engine bleed air, such as pressure- reducing, relief and solenoid valves, as well as filters. Also on display are emergency operat- ing devices, including snap jacks and bottles, and a representative selection of equipment for flows up to 500 cu ft/min. Also in the range are finger-tight couplings claimed to give com- plete leak-tightness from vacuum to pressures as high as 6,0O01b/sq in. Displayed by this company are altimeters, Mach airspeed indicators, rate-of-climb indi- cators, temperature indicators, accelerometers, differential pressure gauges, periscopic sextants, air data systems, cabin pressure control sys- tems, angle-of-attack systems, flight control systems and engine control systems. In addi- tion there are three items which the company describe as follows: (1) Barometric altimeter with servo correction. Maximum altitude accu- racy in high performance aircraft is achieved by the compact altimeter system Kollsman KS-157, consisting of a servo-corrected baro- metric altimeter and a computer package. Dis- played altitude is corrected for static system •error and inherent system errors; whenever power is removed, the altimeter continues to function as a highly accurate barometric instrument, eliminating the necessity oi a standby instrument.
