FLIGHT International. 7 May 1944 Unique Liferaft Stowage ABOARD THE VG1O The last word in modern aircraft design . .. and safety. The superb VCIO incorporates brand new think- ing on liferaft stowage and accessibility, by the British Aircraft Corporation, Weybridge, in collaboration with R.F.D. Company Limited. The liferafts—six 26-seaters—are stowed in the roof of the passenger compartment, and lowered on steel cables, controlled by friction devices. Launching from the aircraft's emergency exits can be achieved in a matter of seconds. An altogether new container design was evolved, with separate packs for rafts and emergency equipment. (Incidentally—the R.F.D. liferafts aboard the B.O.A.C. VCIO aircraft have a further difference. AIR- ASPIRATED INFLATION, achieving a useful weight saving and greater inflation efficiency under all climatic conditions.)
