uel control for the VC.10 "he 135-ton Vickers VC.10 —for British Overseas Airways Corporation—carries just under 18,000 gallons of fuel. Its iccurate control and measurement has been entrusted to JMITHS Aviation Division, who are supplying their Type 4 Contents Gauging Equipment for all aircraft ordered to date. Mso supplied for the VC.10 is a range of Smiths manometric nstruments including Precision Altimeter, Airspeed Indicator yithVNO pointer, Machmeter and Vertical Speed Indicator as i/ell as engine instruments and a specially designed rear view •eriscope. Vickers choice bears witness to Smiths leadership in nstrumentation and systems engineering for aviation's future. The SMITHS Type 4 gauging system installed in the VC.10 provides accurate indication of the actual fuel contents of all seven tanks, irrespective of variations in level due to changes in flight altitude, and is self-compensating over a given range of fuels. A special feature is the fuel load control panel located in the underside of the port wing. This gives the fuelling crew rapid and precise control from one point of the entire fuelling operation, designed to be completed in just over jy minutes. s •«#*•••
