FLIGHT International, 14 May 1964 819 BLANIK L13 SKETCHBOOK By Lawrence Watts (A) The Rlanik LI3 cockpit is roomy, comfortable and gives good visibility. Front (setn here) and rear cockpits are almost identical, and two eight-place instrument panels are fitted as standard. The rudder pedals in the front cockpit are adjustable in flight, and those in the rear cockpit on the ground. In the padded fabric trim of each cockpit is a large map pocket on the starboard side (B) The landing gear is manually controlled, a single oleo shock-absorber under the rear cockpit providing the suspension. As a safety measure, the wheel is still capable of absorbing landing loads when retracted. Pull-on levers control the drum-type wheel brake, which is operative in either "up" or "down" positions (C) Flaps and air brakes are actuated by the system shown. The flaps are large and effective, rolling into position on outrigger brackets, and the laterally hinged brakes are aerodynamically balanced and positive in action (D) Rigging is simple, with one pin in each main-spar joint and one in each front spar, a washer and safety-pin holding them in position. Air brake and flap controls are self-locating, but the ailerons require a clevis pin KEY TO DR AWI N GS Control column Rudder pedal adjustment Wheel brake lever Trim control Air-brake lever Flap lever Cable release Undercarriage control lever Hood jettison Rudder pedals Map pocket Battery box Hood lock First-aid kit Ventilator Clear-vision panel B 17 18 19 20 C 21 22 23 24 25 26 D 27 28 29 30 Drum brake Oleo shock-absorber Seat-securing brackets Hinged fabric back-rest Main-spar pin Front-spar pin Clevis pin (ailerons) Aileron control rod Air brakes Flaps Flap Wing under-surface Flap outrigger bracket Rollers © Iliffe Transport Publications 1964 \\
