f LIGHT International, 4 June 1964 JET TRAINING 400 in service The Royal Air Force chose the Jet Provost only after the closest operational and technical evaluation lasting 2 years. Now 6 air forces are using more than 400 Jet Provosts to train their pilots. Present developments ensure continued production. Solo after 11 hours Docile handling characteristics allow pilots without previous experience to fly solo after nn average of only 11 hours dual. Yet performance is more than adequate for the full 160 hour RAF. basic training syllabus to be carried out in the same aircraft, including applied flying exercises at high altitudes. Armament As well as flying training, the Jet Provost is suitable for weapons training and as a tactical strike aircraft in remote areas using airfields denied to more advanced strike aircraft. Experience The Jet Provost follows two previous R.A.F. basic trainers from the same stable, and total production of all these types so far amounts to more than 1,400 aircraft.
