FLIGHT International, 6 August 1964 After extensive evaluations Norway has selected the Northrop F-5 tactical fighter to provide a new supersonic punch for the Royal Norwegian Air Force. The initial pro- curement calls for 64 F-5's to be delivered to the RNoAF during the 1966-67 time period. The supersonic F-5 combines deep penetration capabili- ties at low levels with an operating ceiling of 52,000 feet, a tactical radius of 875 statute miles, and a maximum range of more than 1,850 miles. Rate of climb is nearly 30,000 feet per minute at sea level. The F-5 will carry 6,200 pounds of external stores in versatile configurations of weapons or extra fuel. The F-5 is easily convertible in the field to reconnaissance configura- tion. Even with one of its two engines inoperative, the F-5 outperforms the aircraft it will replace.
