FLIGHT International, 7 January I96S FOR THE TSR2 The first comprehensive electrical control system for Supersonic engines. Single-lever operation. This electrical control system for the new Bristol Siddeley Olympus incorporates many 'firsts' and new techniques, notably that of variable area nozzle control. Through the pilot's throttle lever, the system controls the primary engine functions of main fuel flow, reheat fuel flow and nozzle area, plus the subsidiary functions of acceleration, turbine interstage temperature and compressor delivery. It calls up the required value of thrust to a safe maximum for any given instantaneous speed and ambient conditions. Control is fully automatic and requires no special ac- tion or consideration by the pilot—thrust changes are linear with movement of the pilot's lever. Engine mounted components operate in environmental temperatures up to 250°C, and the aircraft mounted control unit up to 1203C.
