On September 24, 1925, services between Cocha-bamba and Santa Cruz were inaugurated using one Junkers F13. Towards the end of the sameyear three more F13s were bought in order to start a regular service to Trinidad. In 1928 twoJunkers W34s were acquired. The airline now operates a network of domestic services andalso covers routes to Arica in Chile, Lima in Peru, Salta and Buenos Aires in Argentina, andCorumba and Sao Paulo in Brazil. In 1941 the Bolivian Government acquired the controllinginterest in the company and LAB became the national airline. Panagra was given a contractto administrate it. The Government still holds most of the stock, though Panagra still holds20 per cent. A further minority is held by small stockholders, among whom are a number ofemployees. Negotiations are at present being conducted with the French Government forthe purchase of two Caravelles, with which the company will probably lengthen its routes,with services to the USA. Loftleidir HF (Icelandic Airlines) formed onMarch 10, 1944, has operated services within Iceland and to European destinations, butsince March 1952 has confined its activities to the operation of North Atlantic services linkingNew York and Reykjavik to Glasgow, London, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Copenhagen, Go-thenburg, Oslo and Helsinki. Fares are below IATA economy rates, although the sectorseast of Iceland have IATA agreed fares. In February 1965 an order was placed for twofurther Rolls-Royce 400s (formerly Canadair CL-44s) delivered in May 1965 and in April1966. The fourth aircraft is to be modified to carry 189 passengers by increasing fuselagelength by 15 ft, and the other three aircraft will be modified to the same configuration duringthe winter of 1965-66 and '67, the last one to be delivered in February 1967.Head Office: Reykjavik Airport, Reykjavik, Iceland.
