Attempted overshoots, although tech- nically in the take-off stage, have been included in the landing category on the assumption that, had the approach and landing been successful in the first place, the need to overshoot would not have arisen. Numerically, so far as accidents/incidents are concerned, the difference is small, but the unsuccessful over- shoot in Cyprus by the Globe Air Britannia, with the 126 fatalities, would make a significant difference to any table of fatalities by phase of flight. As it is, by our method of categorising, there were 214 fatalities in the take-off and initial-climb phase, and 435 in the approach and landing phase. These figures represent 58.2 and 57.7 per cent respectively of the occupants of the aircraft involved. By the year end K.LM had taken delivery of two of their fleet of DC-9-30s. Twelve more, five of them quick-change cargo variants, will be delivered this year and in 1969. They are laid out for eight first-class and 88 economy passengers
