fUGHT International, 21 Nmembtr I96B 11 Avco Lycoming gas turbine LYCOMINO 8TRATFORO, CONN, U.C.A. 6 Frankfurt/Main 1. Fuerstenbergerstr. 827. West Germany Even our versatile gas turbine can't be all things to all men. But the incredible part is how close it comes. In our pictures, we've sur- rounded it with some of the uses we've put our turbines to, Heli- copters, V/STOLS, Fixed-wing aircraft, Hydrofoils, Air cushion vehicles, Industrial applications, like oil rigs. Our turbines are equally at home in any of them. We've even combined Avco turbines with diesel engines in a remarkable marine rig called CODAG, that puts all-out speed and long-range economy just a flick of a switch apart. Nor does terra-firma hold any mysteries for our turbine engine- ers. Right now, they've got experi- mental tank engines at the testing stage. The biggest reason why Avco Lycoming gas turbines are in- credible is the experience behind them. For 17 years, we've been accumulating it. Our T53 series of helicopter engines alone have logged over 8,000,000 flight hours, mostly in places where an engine has to be good to survive. Actually, building an incred- ible engine is easy. It's learning how that's hard.
