The tandem undercarriage is of laminated ash covered with glass-fibre British Acrobatic Dates Provisional dates and airfields for this year's British aerobatic contests are as follows: Icicle Trophy, February 23, Redhili; McAully Tiger Trophy, May 3, Little Snoring; Air Squadron Trophy, June 20, airfield to be announced; de Havilland Trophy, July 4, airfield to be announced; Esso Tiger Trophy, September 27, Rochester. The date of the European Championship at Dax has yet to be fixed. Radio Only at Denham From March 1 Denham Airfield will be restricted to aircraft carrying two-way VHF communica tions radio including the frequency of 123.5 Mc/s. The decision has been taken by Gregory Air Services Ltd, operators of the airfield, in view of the rapidly increasing number of move ments. It is planned to install VASI-style approach-path aids, which will enable Gregory Air Services to operate into Den ham after dark with fare-paying passengers on board. US Racing Plans for '69 The first event in what may be the biggest American air racing season in history will be the Florida National Air Races, on February 13-16 at the Execu tive Airport, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The organisers, Atlantic Coast Air Races Inc, plan a 900-mile cross-country race for Unlimited Class aeroplanes, plus closed-circuit racing for Formula One, Sport Biplanes, Women's Stock Planes and HarVards, for a total purse exceeding $18,000. All closed-circuit racing will be over a three-mile course of a shape and size recently developed by the Professional Race Pilots Association for all but Unlimited Class pylon races. This circuit measures 5,380ft on the two main straights and 1,270ft on the four short legs, to make an oval 6,650ft long and 2,200ft wide, with all six turns at 60°. The provisional calendar for the remainder of the North American racing season is as follows: May 29-June 1, Formula One regional race in Wilmington, Delaware, or Huntsville, Alabama; July 4-6, Quebec Air Races (handicap race and Formula One regional race), Quebec, Canada; July 18-20, Maryland National Air Races (Formula One, Sport Biplanes, Women's Stock Planes, Unlimited cross-country race); August 29-September 1, Cleveland Air Races (Formula One, Sport Biplanes, Women's Stock Planes, Unlimited trans continental race); September 18-21, Reno National Champion ship Air Races. Westair Flying Services of Blackpool Airport have been appointed by Cessna as full-line dealers for the United Kingdom (the company was previously single-engine-range dealers only). Training Group at Aberdeen Mr Peter Elliot-Forbes, a businessman with interests throughout Scotland and the Orkney Islands, has obtained an instructor's licence and is planning to form a flying training group at Aberdeen Airport, using the Cessna 150 which he has been operating in connec tion with his business. The venture will be called the Pegasus Flying Group. Surrey and Kent Flying Club, one of the pioneers in the development of Biggin Hill as a private-flying airfield since 1959, has been amalgamated with the John Delaney Group of companies. Mr John Delaney is the new chairman of the club, but the management, flying instructors and administra tive staff are unchanged. The John Delaney group controls a number of companies of a diverse nature, some of which have aviation connections. The Surrey and Kent Flying Club at present operates 18 aircraft for some 560 members.
