The entire south-east part of the United States is visible (with Florida particularly prominent) together with the Bahamas and the islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and Puerto Rico. The shallow water in the Bahamas Banks contrasts with the tone of the deeper surrounding water. The cyclonic cloud formation is well shown. Far right, one of the best photographs returned from the mission is this superb view of Earth, showing nearly the entire western hemisphere. Prominent is the land mass of South America, with North America obscured by cloud. The cyclonic cloud mass remarked in the photograph above can also be identified. The Sun is just setting over West Africa. Below, a view of the Mission Control Room at NASA's Manned Spacecraft Centre, Houston. Seen on the television monitor is the Earth as it appears to the astronauts at a distance of 176,000 miles •di:.!&:
