Mitsubishi's MU-2G, a stretched version of the MU-2A/MU-2F series, made its initial test flight during January from the Nagoya airport adjacent to the Komaki factory. The -2G is only 6ft longer than the earlier models, but the cabin is nearly twice the length, measuring 19ft Sin as against 10ft 6iin. The -2G also incorporates changes in the landing gear: the nose gear is moved slightly aft and retracts forward and the main gear now retracts into pods on the lower sides of the fuselage. This single-pilot operation took the aircraft to Luton, Bristol, Southampton, Oxford, Belfast, Glasgow. Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds and Southend, and to Pau in France. New Zealand Fletchers Air Parts of New Zealand, the sole producer of the Fletcher FU-24 agricultural aircraft, has now completed about 148 of the type. They are being exported to Australia and South America a;nd negotiations are almost com plete for an order from South Africa. Over 50 per cent of all agricultural work in New Zealand is now performed by the FU-24. The maker is flight testing two turboprop versions, the Model 1060 (P&W PT6) and the Model 1160 (Garrett TPE-331). Tests are proving highly successful, according to Air Parts general manager, Mr G. Scheltema, but production will not be undertaken until full results are known.
