456 FLYING TRAINING . RIGHT International. 20 March 1969 PRIVATE PILOT TRAINING TODAY (continued from page 450) syllabus generally used—a changing and challenging environment in itself. To keep abreast of developments, the instructors themselves are now -more so than ever setting an example. Something like 70 per cent of all holders of private instructor ratings have attended forums during the last 18 monirhs to ensure standardisation of methods and techniques. Is this flying business for everyone? Why not? Don't be misled by talk of a young man's game; think, for instance, of the number of senior business execu tives, attracted -by comfortable modern "'saloon-type" aircraft, who now accept self-drive aviation as a means of relaxation. The influence of the American imported aircraft would, it was foretold, spell the doom of aerobatics and air racing. This has proved a false prophecy. More .people than ever are now taking part in -the itrue sporting aspects of flying; and—a good sign, 1 think—a much more serious approach is being made of these particular activities. People are no longer content just to do aerobatics or to take part in a race; ffliey want to do these things .really well. One result is thait they enjoy it that .much more and that their overall standard of flying is progressively improved.
