On November 2, 1922, Qantas ODened its first regular service between Charleville and Cloncurry. Qantas Empire Airways was founded in January 1934 by Q.A.N.T.A.S. and Imperial Airways to operate the Brisbane-Singapore section of the England-Australia route. The airline now operates across the Pacific from Sydney to San Francisco, to Vancouver. New York and London. Qantas started trans-Pacific services in 1954 when it took over the Sydney-Fiji-Honolulu-San Francisco and Vancouver route of BCPA. In 1964 Qantas opened a route from Sydney to London via Tahiti, Acapulco, Mexico City, Nassau and Bermuda. The airline also operates from Sydney to New Guinea. Manila, Hong Kong and Tokyo: across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand: and from Sydney through Perth to Johannesburg via Mauritius. Qantas serves Noumea and Norfolk Island from Svdney. Reeve Aleutian Airways Inc was founded in 1932 but operated mainly charter services until 1948 when CAB granted the com pany a certificate.
