At the Bangalore Division, production is under way of Rolls-Royce Orpheus turbojets and Dart turboprops, and Turbomeca Artouste turboshafts, all for aircraft being built under licence by HAL's airframe sector. A design and development department at Bangalore has developed a small turbojet and piston engine. As Italy's largest aero-engine concern, Fiat has traditionally relied on licence-manufacture of General Electric and Rolls- Royce products—of which manufacture of J79-GE-19 17,9001b, 81.20kN, turbojets for Fiat-built Lockheed F-104 Starfighters is currently typical—including participation in Alfa-Romeo's licence-manufacture of General Electric J85 turbojets. More recently the company has in addition sought to establish a design and development capability as evidenced by Fiat's 20 per cent share in Turbo-Union's RB.199 programme for MRCA and the company's technical collaboration agreement with Rolls-Royce on the Viper 600 military and commercial turbojet. PIAGGIO Industrie Aeronautiche e Meccaniche Rinaldo Piaggio SpA. Headquarters: Genoa. Private company engaged in aircraft, aircraft turbine, rolling stock and industrial vehicle manu facture. Employees 1,200. The Piaggio Aero Engine Division licence-manufactures the Rolls-Royce Viper 500 series turbojets for Macchi MB326 trainers (the more powerful Viper 600 series being the subject of a separate agreement with Fiat). Licence-manufacture is also underway of Lycoming T53-L-13 1,400 s.h.p., l,044kW turboshafts for Agusta-Bell 204B and 205 helicopters, and of selected Lycoming piston engines. TURBOMOTORI - Turbomotori Internazionale SpA. Headquarters: Rome. Public company owned equally by General Electric Co, Fiat SpA and Alfa-Romeo SpA. Engaged in marketing of aircraft turbines. Formed in 1970, the company provides a joint management service to co-ordinate the resources of its three parent con cerns to meet aircraft engine market requirements with GE turbines. Turbomotori is initially engaged in distributing GE-designed engines and spare parts and in providing service support for Italian based programmes.
