Deliveries of the 737 total over 285, and orders during the first nine months of 1971 for 42 aircraft made it the best- selling jet airliner in the world during that period of economic slow-down, according to Boeing. Total, 293 MP™^eK?£4 1Merc"re The first prototype Dassault Mercure short-haul medium capacity transport made its first flight on May 28 this year and preliminary flight tests have been completed. This aircraft represents Dassault's second step into the commercial aircraft market. The launching programme was decided after elaborate market studies which the company says, show a large demand (1,800 up to 1980) for this type of aircraft. The aircraft is built by an international consortium under Dassault leadership (14 per cent of the total costs), Fiat of Italy (14 per cent), Casa of Spain (9-4 per cent) and Sabca of Belgium (6 per cent). The French Government is funding 5b per cent of the programme under a reimbursement agree ment on production aircraft. Deliveries of production aircraft will begin in 1973 and the trench domestic airline Air Inter has put a firm option on a hrst batch of ten to be delivered in 1973-1975. Price quoted is between £2 million and £2-5 million. The standard aircraft could accommodate up to 155 passengers and there is a pos sibility of a stretch to 180.
