The carrier successfully appealed against the grant of a temporary licence to Air Illinois, saying that this operation would be separate from Ozark's normal schedules and would be self-supporting. Airtruk export milestone Export sales worth $A500,000 have now been recorded by the Transavia Airtruk. In addi tion to the agricultural uses for which this Australian air craft was designed, it has been adapted for cloud seeding in Thailand. Export markets include New Zealand, India and Africa. Senate to consider local services Local air services in the United States will again come under Senate scrutiny when the aviation sub-committee begins new hearings on April 10. Subjects for discussion include subsidies for certifi cated carriers and the proposed bid-contract system for certain local services. Damages follow pilot error In the first such case to be heard in Canada, damages of $326,600 have been awarded against the estate of a pilot who crashed as a result of losing control in wake turbulence. An Aztec was approach ing Vancouver Airport and was overtaken by a Boeing 707; the pilot and three passengers were killed in the ensuing crash. The judge ruled that reasonable care demanded that the Aztec circle, to allow time for adequate separation. He dismissed claims against two air traffic controllers involved in the incident. Falcon renamed The 32-seat Falcon variant powered by two Lycoming ALF 502D turbofans is now known by the type designation Falcon 30. FAA certificate for Lama The Aerospatiale SA.315 Lama- has been granted type certification by the FAA. The air- waft, which combines the structure of the Alouette 2 with the power train of the Alouette 3, is intended for aerial work and has been cleared to operate over a wide range of ambient temperatures. Learjet stays in profit Gates Learjet reports earnings for the quarter ending January 31, 1972, of $1-5 million based on net sales of $13-5 million. Despite an order backlog which extends to October 1972, Gates Learjet is promoting export sales, and certification in Australia is expected in a matter of weeks. Twin Otters to Indonesia Merpati Nusantara, the Indo nesian domestic airline, has ordered two more Twin Otters for its West Irian service. The company has operated three Twin Otters in the mountainous region of western New Guinea since 1968, initially under a United Nations aid programme. King Air for Mexican training The Civil International Aviation Training Centre at Mexico City has taken delivery of a King Air C90. The centre operates a fleet of 16 aircraft and carries out training of pilots, air traffic controllers, meteorologists and operations officers, with a normal student population of 200. Robertson Golden Eagle Robertson Stol modifications are to be applied to the Cessna 421B Golden Eagle in a pro gramme which aims at certification by July 1972. Fowler flaps will be associated with drooping ailerons, and flap/ elevator interconnection will be introduced. Take-off safety speed is expected to be reduced from 120 m.p.h. to 85 m.p.h. Cessna's European Citation demonstrator staged through Prestwick before beginning an intensive sales tour. The company reports that three firm sales were recorded early in the tour to customers in Belgium and Austria
