FLIGHT International. 29 June 1972 933 Leading-edge droop The leading edge of the Trident 1 incorporates two sections which droop, and an inboard Kruger flap. Each droop section, which lowers through 26°, is actuated by two irreversible screw jacks, interconnected and powered by a hydraulic motor. Selection is cable-operated from a lever on the centre console, a single cable circuit running to the wing centre section where it divides to each wing. Asymmetric droop is mechanically possible, but within the permitted speed band for selection the resultant rolling moment is small. A leading-edge-position indicator is installed on the centre instrument panel, and a wrong selection of droop position in relation to airspeed is indicated by the illumina tion of an amber light on the console ahead of the selector lever, by the illumination of the "controls" caption (also amber) on the central warning panel, and by the individual "attention getter" lights in front of each crew member. Flight-manual limitations on the operation of the leading edges include a maximum speed with the droop selected of 250kt and a minimum speed for flight with droop retracted of 225kt. These speeds are placarded on the console immediately forward from the selector lever.
