952 FLIGHT International, 29 June 1972 MILITARY AVIATION a JetStar for VIP use. The helicopter force consists of 14 Bell 47s, five Jet- Rangers, six Alouette Ills, a Bell 212, a Hiller UH-12E and three Pumas for Government use. For SAR work there are 18 LASA-60s. The Mexican Navy operates some 14 aircraft made up of five Catalinas, four Alouette lis and five Bell 47s. MONGOLIA Air Force of the Mongolian People's Republic This small air force operates mainly in support of the Army and has no combat aircraft. There are 30 An-2, 11-14 and An-24 transports, ten Mi-1 and Mi-4 helicopters and some Yak-lls, Yak- 18s and MiG-15UTIs. One SAM bat talion has SA-2 Guideline missiles. MOROCCO Aviation Royale Cherifienne The Royal Moroccan Air Force operates one squad ron of ten F-5A fighter-bombers and there are 24 Fouga Magisters for strike/ trainer duties. Twelve MiG-17s are be lieved to be still in storage. The trans port force is equipped with C-47s and 11 C-119Gs, while the helicopter element has four HH-43 Huskies, 24 AB.205s, four Alouette lis, four Bell 47s and two UH-12s. Training is done on 45 T-6s and 25 T-28s. NEPAL Royal Nepalese Army This small force flies two Short Skyvan 3Ms and three DHC Twin Otters on transport work. The Royal Flight operates an Alouette III and uses one of the Skyvans. NETHERLANDS Koninklijke Luchtmacht The Royal Netherlands Air Force is part of Nato and is currently equipped with 120 F-104G Starfighters in two intercepter squadrons, two strike squadrons and one reconnaissance squadron. A total of 75 Canadair-built NF-5As equip three attack squadrons and 30 NF-5Bs have replaced T-33s in a training squadron. The Northrop P.530 Cobra, the Dassault Mirage F.l and the Saab Viggen are be ing considered to replace the F-104Gs and NF-5s. There are eight squadrons of Nike-Hercules and 11 squadrons of Hawk SAMs. One transport unit flies 12 F.27M Troopships and an F.28 Fellow ship. Flown and operated by the air force on behalf of the Army for AOP and liaison are three squadrons of 60 Piper L-21s, 70 Alouette nis and nine Beavers. A decision on the replacement of these types is imminent. Marine Luchtvaartdienst Since the sale of the aircraft carrier Karel Doorman to Argentina in 1969, the Royal Nether lands Naval Air Service has been solely land-based and flies two squadrons of maritime patrol aircraft with 17 SP- 2H Neptunes and nine SP.13H Atlantics. Also home-based are two helicopter squadrons, of which one supplies the helicopters for the six van Speyck-class frigates, and three training squadrons. Types operated number eight Westland Wasps, two Sikorsky UH-34Js, nine Agusta-Bell 204Bs, nine Fokker S.lls and five Beech TC45Js. In Curacao is a squadron of 14 S-2N and four US-2N Trackers with a dual operational/train ing role. NEW ZEALAND Royal New Zealand Air Force The RNZAF has undergone economy cuts over the past year with four Bell Iroquois and three Bell 47Gs placed in storage and a number of Devons and Bristol 170s put up for disposal. With the Canberras sold last year, the cur rent strike force is composed of 75 Sqn with A4K and TA-4K Skyhawks and an operational training unit, 14 Sqn, also with Skyhawks (ten A-4Ks and four TA-4Ks are in RNZAF service), 12 Vam pires and a number of T-6 Harvards. Ten BAC Mk88 Strikemasters will be delivered this year to replace the Vam pires. Maritime duties are performed by 5 Sqn with five P-3B Orions and there are four transport squadrons, No 3 with Bristol 170s, Iroquois and Bell 47Gs, No 40 with five C-130H Hercules, No 41 with Bristol 170s and Iroquois and based in Singapore as part of the Anzuk agree ment and No 42 with C47s. The Flying Training Wing is equipped with Devons, Harvards, Bell 47Gs and four Airtourers. One Fokker F.27 has been acquired for VIP use. The BNZAF is also responsible for the three Wasp helicopters operated by the Navy. NICARAGUA Fuerza Aerea, Guardia Nacional This small force is equipped with six B-26 Invaders, six T-33A fighter-bombers and a transport element with three C-47s, four Beech C-45s and ten Cessna 180s. Helicopters include one Hughes 269 and four OH-6As and there are a number of T-6, T-28 and AT-11 trainers. NIGER Force Aerienne de Niger A purely The Netherlands Navy operates both Lock heed SP-2H Neptunes (above) and Breguet Atlantics transport force, the Niger Air Force flies four Noratlas supplied by West Germany, a C-47 and some Broussards. NIGERIA Federal Nigerian Air Force This air force has received little in the way of new equipment since the civil war with Biafra ended in 1969. The bomber force is still made up of four Ilyushin Il-28s from a total of four Egyptian and two Russian aircraft originally delivered, but spares may well have grounded these remaining machines. The fighter element flies approximately 30 MiG-17s out of 41 delivered during the war, and four MiG-15UTIs and eight L-29 Delfin trainers. Ten Piaggio P.149s, 20 Dornier Do27s and Do28s and three C-47s make up the remaining training and transport aircraft while helicopters number ten Alouette lis and three Whirlwinds. Six F.27s are on order, two Mk 600s and four Mk 400s. Six ex-Luftwaffe Noratlas are believed to have been supplied. NORWAY Royal Norwegian Air Force Norway is a member of Nato and her forces are assigned to Allied Forces Northern Europe.
