FLIGHT International 4 January 1973 INDUSTRY International Boeing (Seattle, Wash) has formed three of its operation organisations into companies and these will conduct the bulk of Boeing's operating activity. The companies are Boeing Commercial Airplane (Renton, Wash), responsible for commercial jet transports, with Mr E. H. Boullion as president; Boeing Aerospace (Kent, Wash), responsible for military, space and non-aerospace programmes, with Mr Oliver C. Boileau as president; and Boeing Vertol (Philadelphia, Penn), responsible for helicopters, with Mr Howard N. Steverude as president. A new range of tractor-mounted 400Hz ground power units has been introduced by the Motor Generator Division, Hobart Brothers Co, Troy, Ohio 45373. Each self-contained Super- jet unit, available with 60kVA or 90k VA output, has a brushless alterna tor, solid-state magnetic amplifier regu lator and modular controls. The units can be rolled out 40in from the tractor to allow easy access, and sound-absorb ing materials are claimed to keep noise levels to a maximum 90dBA at 15ft. The service A technician from Honeywell's Aerospace Division (St Petersburg, Fla) checks a digital operational computer, part of the attitude- control system for Nasa's ATS-F satellite is available for maintenance and man agement personnel as well as for air crew. Air Center also operates a school of aeronautics offering flight and ground training. Redifon (Broomhill Rd, London SW18 4JQ) has formed a new com pany, Redifon Electronic Systems, to take over the activities of the parent company's Data Systems Division and Radar Simulator Division. The chair man and managing director of the new company are Mr T. A Cross and Mr E. W. Warren respectively. Who's selling what Malaysian Airline System has placed an order worth more than £90,000 with Link-Miles (Lancing, Sussex) for an F.27 simulator. North American Rockwell (Los Angeles, Calif) has awarded a sub contract worth more than $1 million to Kaman Aerospace (Bloomfield, Conn) under which Kaman will build engine-access doors for B-1A flight and static-test models. Boeing's Commercial Airplane Group (Seattle, Wash) has awarded sub contracts worth more than $655,000 to This overwing combined slide/raft, manu factured by the Air Cruiser Division of Garrett (Belmar, New Jersey; tel (213) 776-1010), has been certificated by the FAA and is on order for the DC-lOs of the KSSU group, Air New Zealand and Air Afrique. Each of the four pairs of doors on a DC-10 has a different model of slide/raft, with capacities varying from 34 to 55 persons. The small tubes on the upper edges of the slide support an integral canopy to protect the occupants when the slide is used as a raft after a ditching. Water ballast bags provide stabilisation and the indicator mast with stripes on top shows the stewardess that the slide, which cannot be seen from the door, is fully inflated ' *x Casa (Madrid) for 727 rear-airstair assemblies and rudder tabs. Air France has ordered two blind- flying and radionavigation trainers from the Simulation and Electronic Systems Division of Le Materiel Tele- phonique (Boulogne). People and posts Mr T. Jack Heckelman has been named director of system programmes for Bendix International. Mr Barry J. Shillito has been appointed president of Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical. Mr Derek J. John has been appointed to the board of British Aircraft Corporation (Commercial Air craft) as sales director. Mr Renzo Taguchi has been named chairman of Ishikawajima - Harima Heavy Industries and Dr Hisashi Shinto has taken over as its president. Mr Rex Nicholson has been appointed managing director of the Bristol Engine Division of Rolls-Royce (1971). Mr Anthony Spooner is retiring from his position of head of aircraft noise and SST programmes at Icao and is to become an aviation consul tant. Mr Forbes Mann is to head LTV's corporate office, to be established in Washington DC, from which govern ment relations and international opera tions will be conducted. Mr Geoffrey C. Bendle has been named manager of the newly formed Engine Vibration Monitoring Group of the UK branch of the Endevco Dyna mic Instrument Division.
