FLIGHT International, 4 January 1973 A3 THE GLEAN, QUIET, ECONOMICAL ALF 502 The 6,5001b thrust ALF 502 combines a single stage high bypass ratio fan with the durable T55 core engine noted for its light weight. The resulting turbofan engine with its moderate overall pressure ratio, con servative turbine temperature, and high thrust to weight ratio offers exceptional performance in the smaller thrust size engines. By using the conservatively designed core engine, it is possible to realiselow unit cost. The more than 2 • 5 million hours of operat ing background of the core engine combined with the logistic advantage of modular construction provides low operating costs to the user. Noise attenuation accomplished by the use of a high bypass fan and design emphasis on the number of rotor blades and stator spacing provides a quiet turbofan with inherent smokeless operation. z^AVCOLYCOMING DIVISION 550 SOUTH MAIN ST., STRATFORD, CONN. 06497
