The patient, a stretcher case, had to be at Heathrow to make an already booked flight to Bermuda the next day. Now Roanne is a small town about fifty miles from Lyons but it does have an airfield. Lyons, of course, has scheduled air services but no direct flights to the UK: all routes are via Paris. Apart from the inconvenience of flight changes and delays for a stretcher case, the scheduled routes would have meant short notice booking of a row of seats - if that were possible, anyway. Even if it had been, the most optimistic overall scheduled journey time would have been over four hours. Overall journey time, Eagle-style, was 2 hrs 40 mins. The patient made the Bermuda flight at Heathrow comfortably.
