FUGHT International. 3 January 1974 21 YF-16 The first General Dynamics YF-16 lightweight fighter prototype was rolled out at Fort Worth on December 13, 21 months after the company received a $37-9 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to build two of the aircraft for evaluation, with two Northrop YF-17s, by the United States Air Force. The fixed, normal-shock inlet for the Pratt & Whitney F100, the blended wing-body design and the bubble canopy (very a la F-15) are all well shown in these photographs. Leading data of the YF-16 are: design combat weight, 17,5001b; design take-off weight, 27,0001b; length, 47ft, wingspan, 30ft; height, 16ft 3in; radius of action, more than 500 n.m.; ferry range, more than 2,000 n.m. First flight is due to take place at Edwards AFB, Calif, early in the new year. -: :* -, , jx i LJ*•—j •Sift* yfiS <5<^fvM &&J HIS Mm ••e*-"
