Reports from Australia indicate that the Ansett group will retain its F.27 fleet for at least ten years. This will mean that some of its aircraft will be in service for over a quarter of a century. India and Pakistan have failed to reach agreement about over flights and services between the two countries, following a series of talks which finished late last month. Pakistan wants to bring the situation to the formal attention of the Inter national Civil Aviation Organisation in Montreal, but this is unacceptable to India which maintains that the dispute should be settled on a bilateral basis. India banned all Pakistani over flights of its territory following the hijacking of an Indian Airlines F.27 and its destruction at Lahore at the beginning of 1971. Nevertheless, the joint communique issued at the end of the talks said the two sides agreed that their discussions had enabled them to achieve "a better understanding" of their respective positions and further talks are now scheduled for this month. Qantas plans to start Australia-Jugoslavia services in April along with the Jugoslavian national carrier JAT. , Singapore Airlines is considering starting services to Fiji. The new Turkish Cypriot airline, to be named Turk-Kibris i Hava Yollari, is due to start operations at the end of this year although the equipment which will be used has not yet | been announced. Aircraft eats aircraft Transvalair's CL-44 recently carried •» two dismantled Pilatus Porters from Dubendorf to Njamena in Chad. The two Porters are now flying in support of famine relief agencies. v A joint service between Taipei and Amman will be ^ inaugurated next April. China Air Lines aircraft will fly from Taipei to Bangkok and Alia Jordanian aircraft will fly the Amman-Bangkok leg. Champagne occasion A Pakistani who tried to hijack a Swissair DC-8 to Libya while it was en route from Bombay to Zurich last week was prevented from doing so by one of two security guards on board the aircraft. He grabbed a champagne bottle and hit the man over the head from behind. Air Illinois' single HS.748, which was delivered just over a year ago, is now flying 12hr a day in revenue service on a network linking Chicago's downtown Meigs Field with seven other points. Passenger load factors are averaging 73 per cent. Jetsave, the British travel organiser, has signed a £2-5 million contract with TWA for 340 transatlantic flights starting on April 1 next year. Boeing 707s will operate up to nine flights a week between London, Manchester and Prestwick and New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago and Miami. SAS has again been refused landing rights at Hong Kong, although it has been seeking them since 1967. The British Government argues that there is insufficient Scandinavia-Hong Kong traffic, but may also feel that SAS and its partner Thai International would siphon off some Hong Kong - Britain traffic. Reports from Japan suggest that the important Japan-Taiwan route may be re-opened before long and restrictions on the use of Taiwanese airspace by Japanese aircraft may be removed. The Japanese Government has already drawn up plans to form a new airline, owned by Japan Air Lines, to take over Toa Domestic and Southwestern Airlines and to operate to Taipei. The new ABC Air/Rail Europe travel guide gives, for what is claimed to be the first time, an immediate comparison of air and rail services linking 2,000 city-to-city connections through out Europe. South African Airways' five Boeing 747s are to be returned to the manufacturer for modification between July and November next year. The engines will be uprated from 47,0001b thrust to 50,0001b, fuel capacity will be increased, the top-deck lounge will be converted to a 14-seat passenger cabin and the braking and thrust-reverser systems will be modified. Noel Wien, the pioneer pilot and president of Wien Air Alaska, has been made an honorary member of the American Air Line Pilots' Association. The award was made at Alpa's 23rd biennial board of directors meeting last month. The Association also awarded Capt Ordell Nordseth of North Central Airlines, Capt Reese D. Loftin and First Officer Freddie D. Jones (posthumously) of Delta, Capts William R. Haas and B. Harold Johnson of Southern Airways and Capt Elliot Adams and First Officer Norman W. Reagan of National, its gold medal awards for heroism. Second Officer (flight engineer) Gerald Beaver of National was given a "special award for heroism." Mr Derek Glover is to give up his British Airways Board appointment on December 31 and relinquish his post as group financial director. He will be appointed special duties director and will continue^as chairman of the Airways pension scheme and of International Aeradio. Mr Cyril Herring will be aDpointed to the post of finance director from January 1, 1975. Mr Herring is currently chief executive of the Regional Division. Mr C. Roger Moss, formerly of Trafalgar House, who has held a number of senior accountancy posts in the United Kingdom, is to be anpointed to the new post of deputv finance director. Cant Jack .Tessop, managing director of British Airways Northeast, will become acting chief executive of the airline's Regional Division from January 1. AIRLINER MARKET Aeropa is to take delivery of a third Boeing 707 early next year ... A number of further A300 orders are under negotiation, according to Airbus Industrie . . . McDonnell Douglas last month demonstrated an Alitalia DC-10-30 to Air Algerie, Tunisair and Royal Air Maroc. The DC-10 is competing with the A300B4 and the TriStar . . . The Nord 262 now operated by Air Alsace will be returned to Aerospatiale when the airline takes delivery of a Corvette . . . Avianca, the Colombian national airline, is to take delivery of an ex-Pan American Boeing 727-100 . . . Britannia Airways is looking for capacity to lease during next year's summer season. One-Eleven 500s may be chosen . . . By the end of March British Airways intends to have disposed of 15 Trident Is... British West Indian Airways is selling its four 707420s now that it has taken delivery of three 707-320Cs . . . The four Nord 262s of Cimber Air of Germany are now at Sonderborg, the base of Cimber Air Denmark, which is not, however, using them . . . Geminair (Ghana) is using the first of two 707-321s on Nigerian Hadj flights. The aircraft are painted with "Geminair" on the fuselage and are flown, operated and owned by Tempair. The second aircraft is at Luton as we go to press . . . Humber Airways is buying the four DC-3s of Macedonian Aviation for use on oil industry charters and is applying to the CAA to have its Air Operator's Certificate appropriately amended . . . Europe Aero Service, the Penpignan-based scheduled-service and charter carrier, has bought a ninth Vanguard . . . Malev, the Hungarian flag airline, is to order its sixth and seventh Tu-134s this year and its fourth, fifth and sixth Tu-154s next year. As the Tupolevs are delivered, Malev's six II-18s will be diverted to cargo and charter work . . . Orders for three DC-10- 30s, the first of which was due for delivery late next year, have been cancelled by National Airlines, and the delivery of four others, two -10s and two -30s, has been postponed. The decision has been caused by a decline in National's market share since it resumed operations on November 1 after a three month strike . . . Royal Air Maroc is leasing an Aer Lingus Boeing 707-320C for use on transatlantic routes. The lease was arranged by Commander Air craft Sales of Limerick, Ireland . . . Saudia last week ordered two 707-320Cs for delivery in November and December next year. Sales of the 707 now total 903... Turk Hava Yollari's first two 727-200s are due to be delivered early this month and will be joined by two more before the year is out. One of two leased 707-120Bs is to be returned to its owner.
