The company's mixed fleet of Fairchild and Fokker- built F.27s are used on charter opera tions to points in Europe and the Mediterranean. Air-India Charters Ltd was set up in September 1971 as a wholly owned sub sidiary of Air-India to operate point-to-point charter services in an effort to promote tourist traffic to India. Air Indies Corporation ceased scheduled services, which had used DC-3s between San Juan and Ponce in Puerto Rico, during 1974. Air Inter (Lijrnes Aeriennes Interieures) was formed in 1954 to operate internal services within metropolitan France. Some services were started in March 1958 using chartered aircraft, and full operations were started in 1960. Air France and French Railways (SNCF) each have a 25% interest and UTA 15%, while various banks and surface trans port interests also have small holdings. Air Ivoire was founded in 1963 and began operations in August 1964. Air Jamaica (1968) Ltd was formed in October 1968 by the Jamaican Govern ment and Air Canada, whose original shareholding of 40% was reduced to 34% in 1973 and is due to be further reduced to 26% during 1975. Air Canada also provides technical and managerial assistance. Operations began on April 1, 1969, and scheduled passenger and cargo services now link Kingston and Montego Bay with Chicago, Detroit, Frankfurt, London, Miami, Nassau, New York, Philadelphia and Toronto. Air Liberia Inc was formed in January 1974 from the merger of Liberian National Airlines with Ducor Air Trans port (Datco). LNA was originally formed in 1949 as Liberian National Airways and operations began in 1952. A technical and management assistance agreement operated between 1965 and 1968 but this was replaced by a similar three-year contract with Hughes Air- west in December 1973. Scheduled pas senger services link Robertsfield Inter national and Spriggs-Payne Airports (Monrovia) with Greenville (Sinoe), Zwedru (Tchein) and Harper (Cape Palmas). Airlift International Inc. formed in 1945 as Riddle Airlines, is certificated by the CAB as a scheduled all-cargo carrier. Passenger and cargo charters and military contract flights are operated, together with an extensive network of scheduled all-cargo services. Air Madagascar (Societe Nationale Mal-gache de Transports Aeriens) was formed On January 1, 1962, as the national airline of the Malagasy Repub lic. The company is owned 66% by the Government and 34% by Air France and Les Messageries Maritimes. Air Madagascar operates an extensive domestic network plus international routes to Paris, Marseilles and Rome via Djibouti. Regional services also link Tananarive with Nairobi, Dar-es-Salaam, Lourengo Marques, Johannesburg, the Comoro Islands and Reunion in the Indian Ocean. Air Malawi, the national airline of Malawi, was formed in March 1964 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Central African Airways. With the dissolution of CAA at the end of 1967, the airline separated entirely from its former partners. Air Malawi operates an inter national service from Blantyre to Lon don, plus domestic services to Karonga, Mzuzu, Lilongwe and regional services to Beira, Johannesburg, Lusaka, Ndola, Salisbury, Nairobi, Seychelles and Mau ritius. Operations began on October 9, 1974, and now cover scheduled passenger ser vices linking Male with Colombo six days a week, and a fortnightly service to Gan.
