FLIGHT International, 20 March 1975 469 Air Niger was formed in 1966 with assis tance from the French airline UTA and took over the air-taxi and charter opera tions of Societe Aero-Niger. Scheduled passenger and cargo services are operated from Niamey to Agades, Arlit, Maradi, Tahoua and Zinder. Head Office: PO Box 205, Immeuble Sempastous, Niamey, Republic of Niger. Air Niugini was formed in 1973 as the national airline of the Republic of Niu- gini, previously the Territory of Papua and New Guinea, a protectorate of Aus tralia. Shareholders in the new airline are the Government with 60%, Ansett Niugini Enterprises Ltd with 16%, and the Australian Government nominees Qantas and Trans-Australia Airlines with 12% each. Operations began on Novem ber 1,1973, on routes previously operated by Ansett Airlines of Papua, New Guinea and TAA, using aircraft bought and leased from the two Australian carriers. Scheduled passenger and cargo services now link Port Moresby with Bulolo. Daru, Garaina, Goroka, Gurney, Kavieng, Kieta, Kokoda, Lae, Losuia, Madang, Manus Island, Mount Hagen, Popon-detta, Rabaul, Vanimo, Vivigani and Wewak. Air Pacific Ltd, known until April 1971 as Fiji Airways, was formed in 1951 by Harold Gatty. Qantas acquired control of the airline in 1957 and the shareholders now include Qantas, British Airways Associated Companies, Air New Zealand and the Governments of Fiji, Tonga, Western Samoa, Nauru, the British Solomon Islands Protectorate and the Gilbert and Ellice Islands. Scheduled local services are operated within the Fiji group of islands plus an interna] ser vice in the Gilbert and Ellice Islands. Regional services link Fiji with the New Hebrides, Solomon Islands, Tonga Western Samoa, Nauru, Port Moresby, Brisbane and Auckland. Air Panama Internacional SA was formed in 1967 and began operations in August 1969 with a DC-9-10 leased from the manufacturers. Major shareholder is Iberia with 33%, the remainder being in Panamanian hands. The airline is designated as the flag carrier of Panama and operates scheduled passenger and cargo services from Panama City to Mexico City, Bogota, Guayaquil, Lima, Miami and New York, with extensions planned to Los Angeles and Buenos Aires. In 1958 RAI was taken over by the French airline TAI (now UTA). Scheduled passenger ser vices are operated from Papeete to Huahine, Raiatea, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, Tetiaroa, Takapoto, Manihi, Ua Huka, Tubuai, Maupiti, Hiva Oa, Rurutu and Moore a. Air Rhodesia Corporation was formed by the Rhodesian Government on Sep tember 1, 1967, to succeed the Rhode sian segment of the Central African Air ways Corporation, dissolved at the end of 1967. Air Rhodesia now operates a domestic network, together with inter national services from Salisbury, Vic toria Falls and Bulawayo to Johannes burg, and Salisbury to Durban, Blantyre, Beira, Vilanculos and Lourenco Marques. Air Saint-Pierre began operations in 1961 and now flies scheduled passenger services between the French island of St Pierre, off the Newfoundland coast, and Sydney, Nova Scotia, in association with Eastern Provincial Airways. Air Siam Air Co Ltd was formed in September 1965 as Varan-air-Siam by Prince Varanand, the major shareholder, who originally held a 90% interest. Scheduled cargo operations began in 1970 but were suspended in January 1972 pending reorganisation of the air line. Services were resumed in May 1972 and have since expanded and now in clude Boeing 747 services to Tokyo and Honolulu, DC-10 services to Los Angeles (from December 1974) and Airbus A300 services to Hong Kong. Future plans include services to Melbourne via Singa pore, and to Frankfurt via Athens. In January 1975 the Thai Government ordered a merger to take place with Thai International as soon as possible after March 31, 1977, when SAS's 30% participation in that airline comes to an end. Air Spain SA, formed in January 1965 to operate charter and inclusive-tour services from Palma, ceased operations in January 1975 following the breakdown of merger talks with Aviaco. The airline was a subsidiary of the Banco del Noroeste. Head Office: Velazquez 10-4, Madrid 1, Spain. Air Tchad was formed in June 1966. Stockholders are the Tchad Government (64% ) and UTA (36% ) which provides technical and operational assistance. Operations began on August 4, 1966, and currently link Ndjamena (formerly Fort Lamy) with Mongo, Abecher, Ati, Fort. Archambault, Am Timan, Faya Largeau, Bongor, Pala, Geneina, Moundou, Bol, Oum Hadjer, Abou Deia and Bokoro. Head Office: PO Box 168, 27 Avenue Charles de Gaulle, Ndjamena, Tchad. Air Togo SA was formed in 1963 with assistance from Pan African Air Charter of Nigeria. Scheduled passenger ser vices link the capital, Lome, with Lagos.
