Subsidiary companies of Ali talia include ATI, SAM, Somali Airlines, Aerhotel, Societa Gestione Mense, Valtur, Immobiliare AZ, Airtour Italia, Italsiel, European Hotel Corporation and Alitalia International Holdings, set up in Luxem bourg in April 1971 to manage foreign holdings in the airline. Alitalia operates a worldwide network of scheduled pas senger and cargo services from Italy to points in Africa, North and South America, the Middle and Far East and Australia. The company pioneered "pick-up" mail ser vices using Stinson Reliants with collec tion attachments. Normal scheduled ser vices were started in 1949 and the name Allegheny adopted in 1953. In July 1968 the airline took over Lake Central Air lines and in April 1972 Mohawk Airlines (formed in 1945). The resulting network provides scheduled passenger .service to more than 100 cities throughout the north-eastern United States, plus Toronto and Montreal. ANA was merged with Far Eastern Airlines in 1958 and took over Fujita Airlines in 1963, Nakanihon Air Services in 1965 and Nagasaki Airways in 1967. Among ten stockholders are the Nagoya Railroad, Japan Air Lines, Mitsui Co and the Tokyo Corporation.
