Donaldson Line (Air Services) Ltd, operating as Donaldson International Airways and a subsidiary of the Waver-ley Shipping group, ceased operations in August 1974 following the reposses sion of its four Boeing 707s by Continen tal Illinois, a Chicago banking group. Donaldson's operating licence was im mediately suspended by the Civil Avia tion Authority and formally revoked on September 24. The company has since been liquidated. East African Airways Corporation (EAA) was established in 1945 and began operations on January 1, 1946, as the joint airline of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. An extensive network of scheduled domestic services is operated within the three partner states of the East African Community, plus inter national services to Aden, Addis Ababa, Athens, Blantyre, Bombay, Bujumbura, Cairo, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Karachi, Kigali, Kinshasa, London, Lourenco Marques, Lusaka, Mauritius, Mogadishu, Rome, Seychelles, Tananarive and Zurich. Eastern Air Lines Inc was formed in 1926 as Pitcairn Aviation starting a mail service between New York and Atlanta in May 1928. In 1929 the company was acquired by North American Aviation, and in 1930 the name was changed to Eastern Air Transport Inc. In 1938 North American relinquished its holding and the company adopted its present title after some reorganisation. Several other airlines have been absorbed, in cluding New York Airways (1931), Ludington Air Lines (1933). Colonial Airlines (1956), Mackey Airlines (1967) and Caribbean Atlantic Airlines in 1974, giving Eastern access to Puerto Rico. Domestic services are operated to 94 airports in 28 states of the USA and the District of Columbia, and inter national routes serve points in Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands and Bermuda. In 1961 Eastern inaugurated the Air-Shuttle, a no reservations, guaranteed-seat service operating between New York, Washing ton and Boston. Eastern Provincial Airways Ltd (EPA) was originally formed in 1949 following a reorganisation of Newfoundland Aero Sales and Services of St John's and scheduled operations were begun in 1950. In 1963 EPA took over Maritime Central Airways. Following a redefini tion of the regional carrier's role in August 1969, Eastern Provincial routes now cover services from Montreal to Charlottetown, Halifax, Deer Lake, Stephenville, St John's, Wabush, Churchill/Twin Falls, Goose Bay, Gan der, Sydney, Moncton, Chatham, Charlo, Fredericton, Saint John, the Magdalen Islands and St Anthony in the Quebec and Atlantic Provinces.
