North Central now operates an extensive network of routes radiating from Minneapolis/St Paul to New York and Cincinnati in the east, Kansas City and Omaha to the south, Rapid City and Denver to the west, plus international services to Toronto, Winni peg and Saulte St Marie in Canada. Northwest Airlines Inc was incorporated on August 1, 1926, as Northwest Air ways Inc. The present corporate name was adopted in 1934. In 1948 Washington and Honolulu were added to the network and in 1950 Edmonton and Taiwan. RIGHT Internationa/, 20 March 1975 Olympic Airways SA was formed in April 1957 when Aristotle Onassis took over TAE-Greek National Airlines (founded in 1951 through a merger of TAE, Hellas and Aero Metaforai Ellados, and nationalised in 1954). Onassis' 50- year concession gave him a sole designa tion as national airline and a monopoly on domestic routes. However, Onassis withdrew in December 1974 following heavy losses estimated at £15m for that year, and the airline was grounded pend ing reorganisation. A seven-man manager ment team was nominated by the Government following shut-down, and reports indicate that the National Bank of Greece may take over in the interim. Operations resumed late in January and cover an extensive network of scheduled passenger and cargo services to points in Europe, the Middle and Far East, Australia and North America. The status of a subsidiary, Olympic Aviation, formed in 1971 to operate light aircraft and a helicopter division and responsible for charter, air-taxi, flying training and Aerospatiale representation in Greece, is unclear. Following refinancing and reorganisation in 1965, ONA re ceived permanent CAB certification in 1966 to operate affinity charter, single- entity charter and inclusive-tour charter flights within the US, across the Atlantic as far east as India, and to the Carib bean. Cargo charter flights are also flown to domestic points plus the Caribbean. In addition, ONA will operate travel group charter flights to Europe.
