Pomair Ostend NV, the Belgian charter and inclusive-tour airline ceased opera tions in October 1974 and has since gone into liquidation. Primeras Lineas Uruguayas de Naviga cion Aerea (Pluna) began operations as a private company on November 20, 1936, but became completely State-con trolled from November 12, 1951. Pluna introduced a network of domestic routes before the Second World War, but these are now operated in conjunction with the Paraguayan Air Force, which uses Fokker F.27s and DC-3s. Qantair Ltd is the charter subsidiary of Qantas formed in September 1971 to operate low-fare services. Equipment consists of Boeing 707s converted to 184-seat high-density configuration and chartered from Qantas as and when required. Qantas Airways Ltd can trace its history back to 1920 when Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services was founded on November 16. On Novem ber 2, 1922, Qantas opened its first regular service between Oharleville and Cloncurry. Qantas Empire Airways was founded in 1.934 by Qantas and Imperial Airways to operate the Brisbane-Singa pore section of the England-Australia route. The Commonwealth Government became the sole owner in 1947 when it purchased the BOAC and Qantas share holdings and designated the company as the Australian flag carrier. Opera tions through to London via Singapore were begun in December 1947 and the airline started trans-Pacific services in 1954 when it took over the Sydney-Fiji-Honolulu-San Francisco-Vancouver route of BCPA. The present name was adopted in August 1967. The current route net work covers scheduled passenger and cargo services to Norfolk Island, Auck land, Wellington, Christchuroh, Manila, Noumea, Fiji, Vancouver, San Fran cisco, Tahiti, Hawaii, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Port Moresby, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Singapore, Bombay, Mau ritius, Johannesburg, Bahrain, Damas cus, Athens, Rome, Frankfurt, Vienna, Amsterdam and London from Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin, Perth and Brisbane. The airline was incorporated in 1947 as Rimouski Airlines and merged in 1953 with Gulf Aviation Com pany under the name of Quebecair. Matane Air Service was taken over in 1965 and Royalair in 1969. Scheduled passenger and cargo services are operated from Montreal and Quebec City to more than 40 points throughout the Province of Quebec and Newfoundland. Fleet: Three C-46. SA Rousseau-Aviation was formed in 1963 by Claude Rousseau to operate charter services. Scheduled services began in 1965 and now link Nantes with Brest, Le Havre, Lille, Metz, Mulhouse, Bordeaux, Dinard and London Heath row; Paris with Dinard, St Brieuc and Lannion; Lyon with Nancy and Cler mont-Ferrand with Geneva. In 1973 the company became a member of the Touraine Air Transport Group when TAT acquired a 33% interest. Scheduled passenger services are operated from Casablanca to Agadir, Marrakesh, Rabat, Fez, Tangier, Tetouan, Oujda, Al Hoceima, Ouarzazate, plus international services from Tangier to Gibraltar and Malaga, and Oujda to Oran.
