Transair Sweden AB was founded in 1950 as Nordisk Aerotransport, and changed its name in 1951. Original operations were newspaper distribution flights, and charter and inclusive-tour work was added in 1953. Night mail flights and scheduled passenger ser vices linking Copenhagen with MalmS plus freight flights linking Copenhagen with Stockholm, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Paris (in association with Fred Olsen Airtransport) are operated under contract to SAS. In October 1968 control of Transair passed to Svenska Handels- banken, but the fleet of three Boeing 727s was sold to the Eriksberk Ship yard. Transair will continue to operate and maintain the aircraft, which have been leased from the owners. SAS affiliate company Scanair is a major user of the 727s. Fleet: Two Boeing 727-100, one 727- 100C, Trans-Australia Airlines (TAA) is con trolled on behalf of the Commonwealth Government by the Australian National Airlines Commission. Operations began on September 9, 1946. The network of routes links about 100 points in Aus tralia. These include all major cities, secondary towns and small cities with multi-stop local service networks in Queensland, Central Australia and Tas mania. Total unduplicated route mile age of the TAA network is 59,995km. The airline also serves and maintains aircraft for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Northern Territory Aerial Medical Service and the Bureau of Mineral Resources. TAA operations in New Guinea and Papua ceased on October 31, 1973, when, alongside Ansett Airlines of PNG, some aircraft and all routes were handed over to Air Niugini, the airline of the newly independent Republic of Niugini. On order: One 727-200. Transavia Holland BV was formed in 1965 as Transavia (Limburg). Charter and inclusive-tour operations began in November 1966 using DC-6Bs. Transbrasil S/A Linhas Aereas, known until June 1972 as Sadia, was formed in Sao Paulo in 1955 to carry meat pro ducts for the Sadia Organisation, but began scheduled passenger services in March 1956. In 1962 Sadia bought out Transportes Aereos Salvador. Scheduled passenger and cargo services are now operated from Brasilia to points in south-east and north-east Brazil. Trans Europa, Compania de Aviacion SA was formed in July 1965 to provide international and domestic passenger and cargo charter flights. Operations began in September 1965. Trans European Airways (TEA) was formed in October 1970 by the Belgian tour operator TIFA of Brussels and is backed by Belgian financial interests. Capital is BFr500,000. Trans International Airlines Inc was formed in 1948 as Los Angeles Air Ser vice, and adopted its present name in 1960. TIA is certificated as a US supple mental air carrier with world-wide authority to operate passenger and cargo charter services. Trans Mediterranean Airways SAL (TMA) was formed in 1953, and for six years operated as a non-scheduled air line. It became a ioint stock company in October 1959. TMA has been wholly owned by the president since 1959, when the airline was certificated as a sched uled all-cargo carrier. TMA's route net work is entirely international with scheduled cargo services providing links between Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia, the Far East and the USA. In April 1971 TMA inaugurated the first round-the-world cargo route with jet flights from Beirut to Tokyo via South East Asia and from there across the Pacific to New York via Anchorage, across the Atlantic to Europe and back to Beirut.
