Caribbean Airways (known until 1976 as International Caribbean Airways), was formed in September 1970 and designated as the national airline of Barbados in January 1975. Scheduled low-fare passenger operations began in December 1970 between Luxembourg and Barbados, and Gatwick was added in 1971. A Barbados/Montreal extension is planned for April 1977. Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd was founded in 1946 and originally operated several DC-3s on freight and later passenger operations on a route network which stretched from Shanghai to Sydney. In July 1959 Hong Kong Airways was absorbed by Cathay Pacific and, with the acquisition, British Airways Asso ciated Companies became minority shareholder. Since 1948 the airline has been controlled and managed by the Swire Group. Following increases and reorganisation of share capital between 1970 and 1975, Cathay Holdings (whose shareholders are Swire Pacific and Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co) now holds 60% of the issued capital, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp 25% and British Airways Asso ciated Companies 15%. Cathay Pacific operates an extensive network of scheduled passenger services throughout the Far East from Hong Kong to Tokyo, Seoul, Osaka, Eukuoka, Taipei, Manila, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kina-balu, Brunei, Singapore, Jakarta, Syd ney, Perth, Melbourne and Bahrain. Cayman Airways Ltd was formed in July 1968 to replace Cayman Brae Air ways, a subsidiary of the Costa Rican airline LACSA. Shareholders in Cayman Airways are the Cayman Island Govern ment (51%) and LACSA (49%). Sched uled passenger services using a BAC One-Eleven chartered from LACSA link Georgetown (Grand Cayman Island) with Little Cayman and Cayman Brae Islands, Kingston (Jamaica) and Miami. Ceskoslovenske Aerolinie (CSA), the national airline of Czechoslovakia, was founded in 1923. Privately owned Cesko-slovenska Letecka Spolecnost (CLS) was founded in 1927, and the present CSA was a result of a merger of the two airlines in 1945. Post-war operations began in 1946 and today an extensive network of routes links Prague with most European capitals, the Near, Middle and Far East, North and West Africa and North and Central America. Scheduled passenger and cargo services are operated from Taipei to Hong Kong, San Francisco, Bangkok, Manila, Saigon, Fukuoka, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Honolulu, Jeddah, Jakarta, Tokyo and Los Angeles. Extensions to Nauru and Tonga have been authorised, along with resumption of services to Seoul. CAL also operates domestic services to all major cities of Taiwan.
