FLIGHT International, 23 July 1977 255 certain to be among those companies awaiting payment of outstanding bills. • By the end of the month British Caledonian will have moved into its new cargo centre at Gatwick. The air line has recently placed contracts worth £1 million for cargo-handling equipment, freight storage and specialised vehicles for the centre, which offers 36,000ft2 of floor space. This is well over double the floor area of the airline's present cargo facility. In 1976 25 per cent of B.CAL's revenue came from freight operations, and the airline expects the proportion to increase this year. Helicopters for Interlink INTERLINK, the Heathrow-Gatwick shuttle service, is expected to begin in April next year. The once-hourly service will be operated by helicop ters, and flying time will be no more than 15min in each direction. The helicopter service will operate initially for a one-year trial period. If successful it could continue until the M25 motorway Unking the two airports is completed in 1982. The British Airports Authority, which will subsidise the service, has ruled out a fixed-wing link because "the average time for the journey would not be sig nificantly better than by road and it would mean using runway slots which are already limited at times at both airports." Flights will follow the existing CAA approved route to the perimeter of the London Control Zone and then fly direct to Gatwick, avoiding built-up areas. The initial order is expected to be for three air craft costing $47 million each, for de^ livery during 1979 • Aloha Airlines is replacing two 107-seat 737-100s with two 118-seat Boeing Advanced 737- 200si at a cost of $17 million including spares • Interlease has leased an ex- Flying Tiger McDonnell Douglas DC-8- 63CF to Cargolux Airlines; it will carry the Icelandic registration TF-CCV. Far Eastern Air Transport is lease- purchasing two Boeing 737-200S from Interlease. One comes from Western Airlines and the other will be supplied by the manufacturer in April 1978. The Beverly Hills leasing company is also delivering a second ex-Western Airlines Boeing 720B to Eagle Air • More 747 sales are announced by Boeing, this time to KLM and Kuwait Airways. The Dutch carrier's fourth Boeing 747 Combi will be delivered in October next year. Kuwait, the 50th customer for the 747, has ordered three 747-200s (fitted with main-deck doors) for delivery in May, June and December next year • Jugoslovenski Aerotransport is buying two McDon nell Douglas DC-10-30s fitted with 52,5001b-thrust CF6-50C1 engines. De livery is scheduled for next summer • Two Boeing Advanced 727-200s will be delivered to Libyan Arab Airlines in June and July 1978, bringing to 1,455 the number of 727 sales announced • Lufthansa is replacing five of its Pratt & Whitney-powered Boeing 747s with an equal number of CF6-powered versions, and has options on two more. One will be a Combi, one a freighter and the remaining three are all-passenger aircraft • Iranian dom estic operator Pars Air is leasing two Fokker-VFW F.28s from the manu facturer • Singapore Airlines will move on from all-Boeing operations when it takes delivery of four McDon nell Douglas DC-10-30s starting in Aug ust next year. The aircraft will seat 268 passengers, carry 13 tons of cargo and be powered by 52,5001b-thrust General Electric CE6-50C1 engines. Their introduction will begin the re tirement of SIA's Boeing 707 fleet. The carrier has options on four more DC-10-30s for delivery during 1980- 1982, and expects to buy more 747s.
