FLIGHT Internationa/, 30 July 197 Business ' Century Jetstream certificated CENTURY has announced certification of the Garrett-powered Jetstream. Volpar made the trial installation at Van Nuys, Cal, and flight-testing began in September 1976 (see flying impres sions in Flight for October 23, 1976, page 1238). Century claims that the initial rate of climb of the aircraft has been in creased from l,700ft/min to 2,108ft/ min; cruising speed has risen to 302 m.p.h. at 18,000ft; and take-off distance has been reduced from 2,650ft to 2,482ft. The change of engines and associated improvements to the electrical systems have cut about 2001b from the empty weight of the original Jetstream. Wales to have an airline DK AVIATION is to form an operat ing company, Air Wales, to be based at Glamorgan Rhoose Airport. Appli cations have already been made to the British Civil Aviation Authority for operating and route licences, and a route structure has been planned to serve North Wales, London, Brussels and North-west France. Air Wales hopes to be flying a Chieftain by October and has ordered two Bandeir- antes, the first of which is to be de livered in April 1978. "The growth of overseas business interest in Wales," says David King, DK Aviation chair man, "is already quite remarkable and requires a number of senior execu tives to travel regularly between Cardiff and Europe. All these journeys are fairly tedious at present." Air Wales Bandeirantes will carry 18 passengers and two pilots. Stretched Nomad nears approval AUSTRALIA'S Government Aircraft Factories expects certification of the Nomad N24 very soon. A stretched version of the current production N22, the N24 will carry 15 passengers and be cleared to 8,5001b gross weight. A further development, the 9,2001b N24A, is planned to carry 16 passen gers, and an application for US Federal Aviation Administration cer tification of this version has been sub mitted. A limited number of N24s will be available quickly, and kits will be made available later to convert them into N24As. Top: one of the first Nomad N24s into service will be this aircraft for medical work in the Northern Territories of Australia. Below: Dash 7 pauses at a rainy Sumburgh as it nears the end of a demonstration tour of North Sea oil-support airfields Blackbushe Air Festival draws wide support BLACKBUSHE Airport Users' Asso ciation this weekend holds the second Blackbushe Air Festival, the proceeds of which go into a legal fund estab lished to support the association's fight to keep the airfield open. A full range of flying display items, from First World War replicas to modern general aviation types, is planned and may be supplemented by a few airliner flying visits. DETAILS Gates open 9 a.m. Entrance: adults £1-50; children 90p; cars free. Flying display 1.30 p.m.-5.30 p.m. each day. ARRIVALS BY AIR Radio: Call Blackbushe Tower when ten miles out on 122 • 3MHz. Non-radio: Approach from North, join overhead at 2,000ft a.g.l., or 2,300ft Q.NH to observe signal square. (Tele phone Blackbushe Tower with ETA before take-off.) Rotors Pumas return to the North Sea BRISTOW Helicopters is about to introduce the Aerospatiale Puma to its North Sea operation. The first of two new SA.330Js was delivered to the operator's Aberdeen base on July 17 after delivery checks at Redhill, and the second is expected shortly. The Pumas will be employed on sole- use charter in support of rigs about 160 n.m. out of Aberdeen. They are equipped with 18 lightweight seats arranged back-to-back along the cabin, a layout which allows stores to be carried among the seats. The rear door will be used for loading stores rather than people, because of the proximity of the tail rotor. Capt Robin Hunt, senior Puma pilot, tells Flight that the use of plastic rotor blades on the J model has put up the operating weight of the air-
