D-30K Two-shaft turbofan. Probably the Soviet Union's most important turbofan today, the D-30K is a growth ver sion of the D-30P with increased diameter and modified component arrangement. As the 25,3001b D-30KU, it powers the four-emgined Ilyushin I1-62M-200, which entered pro duction in 1973, and the re-engined Tupolev Tu-154A trijet. The 26,40001b D-30KP version of this powerplant has a slightly higher bypass ratio. It powers the 11-76 and was originally planned for the new four-engined 11-86 transport. D-30KV Three-stage fan, eleven-stage h-p compressor, annular combustor, two-stage h-p turbine, four-stage 1-p turbine. Take-off 25,3001b, bypass ratio 2-3:1, mass flow 6001b/sec, pressure ratio 20:1, length 181-5in, diameter 61-4in, weight 4,7401b. D-30P Two-shaft turbofan. Subsidiary of Alturdyne, a private company engaged in the design, manufacture and support of small gas-turbine equipment for aero and noni-aero duties. Formed by Frank G. Verbeke, previously of Solar Tur bines International, Alturdyne buys standard off-the-shelf Solar Titan T62 gas generators and builds them into a wide variety of motive power and auxiliary power systems. The aim is to introduce ultra-small gas turbines to commercial and military markets not hitherto served by this category of powerplant. Swift Alturair offers T62s in a variety of main propulsion units. These include a low-bypass-ratio 2501b-thrust turbofan, and a turboprop and turboshaft, both ol 250-350 h.p. There is also a proposal for a geared turbo fan with a 4-5:1 bypass ratio to power the Lake amphibian. Other duties for which the T62 has been adapted by Altur- - dyne include APUs, air-bleed systems, land and marine emergency power generator sets, quick-start hydraulic starter systems, vehicular power units, and load compres sor systems. Solar has so far built more than 8,500 small turbine units, over 6,000 of these being Titan T62s. These units have completed more than 15 million hours in service, with just over half this time being accumulated by T62s operating as APUs (mainly in military helicopters and business aircraft). The company is making particular efforts to enter the home-built field. Turbofan project Single-shaft turbofan. Under develop ment for gliders, drones and experimental subsonic aero- batic and ultra-light aircraft, this unit uses the Solar T62 gas generator as a core. A potential application is the Bede BD-5, in which it would offer lower consumption and higher thrust than the existing Microturbo TRS18 turbojet. Certification to FAA requirements is in progress. Turbofan -project Single-stage centrifugal compressor-fan, annular reverse-flow combustor, single-stage centrifugal turbine. Take-off 2501b, length (flange-to-flange) 21-18in, width 12 • 75in, height 14 • 62ini weight 701b. Turboprop project Single-shaft turboprop. Embodying the Solar T62 gas generator as core engine, this unit is under going FAA certification for use in drones, gliders and experimental subsonic aerobatic and ultra-light aircraft. There is growth potential to 350 h.p. Also projected is a geared-fan turbofan derivative of around 4-5:1 bypass ratio. The So/oviev D-30K powers the Tu-134 and Tu-154 transports Turboprop project Single-shaft centrifugal compressor, annular reverse-flow combustor, single-stage centrifugal turbine, integral front-mounted reduction gearing. Take-off 250 h.p., length 28-87in, width ll-25in, height 18-12in, weight 1251b. Turboshaft project Single-shaft constant-speed turboshaft. Probably the most advanced in its range of applications among the various Alturdyne units, this engine is designed for helicopters, generator sets, mechanical drives, APUs, GPUs and portable power units. A versatile reduction gear box is available to adapt the unit for this variety of roles. The engine is capable of both horizontal and vertical opera tion, and has growth potential to 350 h.p. Turboshaft project Single-shaft centrifugal compressor, annular reverse-flow oombustor, single-stage centrifugal turbine, integral front-mounted gearbox. Corporate sales in 1976 up by 13 per cent to $1,938 million (£1,104 million), of which aircraft turbine sales represented about five per cent. In its financial statements Teledyne includes aircraft turbines (Teledyne (CAE) with piston engines (Teledyne Continental), RPVs (Teledyne Ryan) and a wide range of aero and non-aero electronic equipment. Teledyne's avia tion and electronics sector achieved sales of $453 • 4 million (£258 million) in 1976, down ten per cent from a five-year peak of $460-3 million (£262 million) in 1975. The cor poration itself showed a 33 per cent rise in net profits in 1976 to $134-9 million (£76-8 million), more than twice the earnings of five years earlier. The third-quarter results for 1977 showed this marked upward trend continuing.
