What's new Snecma (2 Boulevard Victor, Paris 75724) has announced that its Hispano-Suiza Division is increasing its shareholding in CNMP (Compagnie Normande de Mecanique de Preci sion), which is to change its name to Soctete Hispano-Suiza. President and director-general will be1 Guy Zarrouati, and almost all of the company's capi tal will be held by Snecma. The 3,000- employee company has factories at Le Havre, Bois-Colombes and Bouviers, with a branch at Pierrelatte and a head office in Paris. Turnover last year was about £87 million. Ferranti's digital systems division (Western Road, Bracknell, Berks RG12 IRA) has announced details of a high-rate digital data link, the Serial Signalling System. Otherwise known as S^, the system is designed for ship, aircraft and ground use, and for high immunity to interference. A data rate of up to three million bits/ sec can be achieved along a screened twisted-wire pair. Multiplexed mes sages can also be transmitted along a single wire pair. This pallet-transfer system was recently supplied to British Airways by Power Lifts Ltd (see story right) A new low-cost digital VOR display has been introduced by HT Instru ments (4121 Redwood Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90066). The new DVOR/200 indicator, replacing the company's DVOR/100, provides digital readouts from conventional VOR re ceivers. The unit fits into a standard 2J4in instrument hole, weighs only 7oz and retails at about $279. Who's selling what AAR Technical Services (25 Buena Vista Avenue, Lawrence, NY 11559) has been appointed sole North American distributor for Rivenaes motor cleaning systems, tooling and fixtures. The Rivenaes system is used for gas-turbine compressor cleaning and has been approved for use on PT6s and TriStar APU motors. Power Lift Ltd (Hadley Works, Holy well Industrial Estate, Watford WD1 8TJ) has supplied British Airways with a pallet-handling system for the transfer of aircraft cargo to airside lorries. The powered-roller system is mounted on double^flanged castors and can traverse along the airside: of the cargo building. A scissor lift which stands only 20in high when closed delivers pallets weighing up to 7,500kg at lorry-bed height. The opera tor works in a cabin fitted with wind screen wipers and lighting for 24hr operations. The lift platform measures 104inX126ira and the conveyor oper ates at speeds up to 150ft/min. DeVore Aviation Corp (125 Mineola Avenue, Roslyn Heights, NY 11577) has certificated the Tel-Tail fight installation on the Bolkow BO105 and Bell 212 (see photograph). The com pany has already certificated an in stallation for the Bell JetRanger and has others under development. The light makes the helicopter easier to see at night and reduces the risk of people walking into the tail rotor. Britannia and Air France are among the airlines that have ordered Tel- Tail lights for their aircraft recently. Britannia will equip all of its Boeing 737s, and Air France its Boeing 727s. DeVore says that over 60 airlines, in addition to business and general- aviation operators, now use the equip ment. GTE Sylvania (1 Stamford Forum, Stamford, Connecticut 06904) has re ceived a $3-1 million contract from the US Navy for continued work on extremely-low-frequency (ELF) radio communications systems. Work centres on deep-sea communications, and equipment is already aboard test submarines. Raytheon (Lexington, Massachusetts 02173) is to supply another 18 preci sion approach radars worth $16 mil lion to the US Air Force, bringing to 39 the total of AN/GPN-22s bought by the service. The radars will be deployed at USAF bases throughout the US, Central America, the Pacific and Europe. Each set can simultan eously track six aircraft. The design is claimed to have good detection per formance in bad weather. Rockwell International (PO Box 10462, Dallas, Texas 75207) recently de livered the second of two UHF ground communications systems to the US Air Force. The systems, which will be used to link E-4 Advanced Airborne Command Post aircraft with surface locations, were delivered toi Offutt AFB, Omaha, and Hillsboro, Missouri. Who's where Cossor Electronics (The Pinnacles, Elizabeth Way, Harlow, Essex CM19 5BB) has announced several changes to the board of new acquisition Data Logic Ltd. Alan Thomas, chief execu tive of Data Logic, joins the board of Cossor Electronics and also assumes responsibility for Raytheon Cossor Data Systems. David Steadman, Cossor managing director, becomes chairman of Data Logic. He is joined on the Data Logic board by John Clare, presi dent of Raytheon Europe Inter national. Data Logic and Raytheon Cossor Data Systems will continue to operate as separate entities.
