Following a sales agreement in October 1968, IAB was taken over in August 1969 by Hekla Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of Loftleidir HF, and the route is now operated in conjunction with the Icelandic airline. International Freight Airways (IFA) was formed early in 1977 to operate pas senger and cargo charters from Ostend to points not served by Sabena. Fleet: one Douglas DC-6B. Intra Airways Ltd was formed in 1969 to operate passenger and cargo charter and inclusive-tour nights. Major stock holder is Intra Holdings Ltd of Jersey with a 90% holding. Scheduled passenger services began in 1971 and now link Jersey with Cambridge and Staverton (for Gloucester/Cheltenham) in the UK; Caen, Deauville, Dinard, St Brieuc and Nantes in France; Ostend and Brussels in Belgium, and Dusseldorf in Germany. Scheduled cargo services are also flown between Jersey and Guernsey (linking with the domestic and international net work) and Bournemouth Hum. In February 1973, the European Ferries shipping group acquired a con trolling interest in the airline from the original founders, H. Kennard and C. J. Stevens, and in January 1976 the total share capital was re-purchased by Universal Air Transport Sales Ltd, of which Hugh Kennard is chairman. IPEC Airbridge, a subsidiary of IPEC (Australia) Pty Ltd, was formed in 1976 to operate the Bass Strait freight ser vice linking Essendon Airport, Mel bourne, with Launceston in Tasmania four times daily. IPEC (Interstate Parcel Express Company) is one of Australia's largest transport companies, specialising in fast freight and overnight services. The company obtained a licence to operate in 1964, but due to import restrictions were unable to acquire suit able freight aircraft. In 1977 IPEC acquired the Argosy 100 previously operated by Brain & Brown, and this entered service in January 1978 follow ing a lengthy overhaul. Last year IPEC took over the Tasmanian charter airline Fleet Air Services, and integrated its services into the Airbridge operation. Iran Air (Iran National Airlines Cor poration) and also known as Homa, an acronym of its Persian name, was formed in February 1962 as the succes sor to the private airlines Iranian Air ways and Persian Air Services, which were merged into a national airline wholly owned by the Government. Scheduled passenger and cargo services 1171 are operated to 18 domestic points plus Abu Dhabi, Athens, Baghdad, Bahrain, Cairo, Bombay, Dhahran, Doha, Dubai, Frankfurt, Geneva, Istanbul, Kabul, Karachi, Kuwait, London, Moscow, Mus cat, Paris, Rome, Vienna and Zurich. Iraqi Airways was formed in December 1945 as a subsidiary of the government- owned Iraqi State Railways and became a financially independent company on April 1, 1960. Operations began in January 1946 and now cover scheduled passenger and cargo services from Baghdad to points in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and North Africa, plus a domestic network.
