Applications can include ATC simulators and the provision of back ground detail in naval operational training equipment. Two independent picture channels are used, allowing secondary effects—clouds, permanent echoes and sea clutter—to be super imposed over the basic video map. The self-contained unit operates from a 24V DC supply and can be mounted in a 19in rack. Jetway (Box 9368, 3100 South 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, Ogden, Utah 84409) has introduced a ground- level loading bridge. The GL-1 is suit able for small terminals and needs only one foundation. It has double- wall construction and can reach the door sills of the DC-9, Boeing 727 and 737 and similar aircraft. Swing angle ranges from 0° to 90°, and the end cab can be rotated through 15° or extended by 0-76m. Sperry Flight Systems (Phoenix, Arizona 85036) is supplying a high- gain antenna system (HGAS) for transferring data between Nasa's Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) space craft and the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS). The first HGAS will be delivered to the God- dard Space Flight Centre in October, one year before the SMM spacecraft is scheduled to be launched. Once operating, SMM will gather data on solar flares and flare-related phenom ena during the next solar-flare peak period in 1980. The 4 • 26ft-diameter HGAS antenna can be steered through a total angle of 220° in each axis, and when deployed from the spacecraft will offer line-of-sight com munication with TDRSS. While Jetway loading bridges have become commonplace at large airports, they are often difficult to install at smaller terminals. The new CL-I loading bridge attaches to the terminal ground floor and is priced to suit second-level airport operators (see story) GTE Sylvania (One Stamford Forum, Stamford, Connecticut 06904) has received a $1-2 million contract covering the installation of communi cations and navigation equipment at Puerto Plata International Airport, Dominican Republic.
