98 FLIGHT International, 13 January 1979 Defence Agency. A second prototype of the engine, the 3,0801b XF-3-20 with a two-stage rather than single-stage fan, was to have been tested last year and flown in a modified Kawasaki C-l. The production model of the engine is expected to be rated at 3,5201b. A civil version of the turbofan, the 3,3001b CFJ810', is also reported to have been tested by IHI. This engine has a 3:1 bypass ratio, compared with the 0-9:1 ratio of the XF-3-20 military variant, and is intended to power advanced business jets in the mid-1980s. XF-3 specification Single-stage fan, five-stage h-p com pressor, annular combustor, single-stage h-p turbine, two- stage 1-p turbine. Take-off 2,6401b, bypass ratio 1-9:1, mass flow 1171b/sec, length 52in, diameter 26in, weight 6181b. ISOTOV (USSR) The 1,500 h.p. TV2-117A turboshaft, main product of this bureau, powers the Mil Mi-8 and Mil Mi-24 transport helicopters, and the Mil A-10 assault helicopter. All three are twin-engined designs. The bureau's small GTD-350 turboshaft is no longer manufactured by Isotov, and is licence-built only in Poland by PZL. A third Isotov engine, the 810 s.h.p. TVD-850 turboprop, flew in 1969 aboard the Antonov An-14M (later redesignated An-28). It appears to have been superseded by the higher-rated 960 s.h.p. Glushenkov TVD-10A which now powers the An-28. TV2-117A specification Ten-stage compressor, annular combustor, two-stage compressor and power turbines. Direct drive. Take-off 1,500 s.h.p., pressure ratio 6-6:1, mass flow 17-81b/sec, length 94in, width 21-5in, weight 7271b. IVCHENKO (USSR) This bureau has specialised in engines for short/ medium-haul transports. Main units are the AI-20 and AI-24 turboprops, and the AI-25. Ivchenko also produces the AI-8 and AI-9 APUs. AI-20 Single-shaft turboprop. One of the Soviet Union's most widely used turboprops, the AI-20 powers a variety of Antonov and Ilyushin transports. A new application dis played at the 1977 Paris Show was the Antonov An-32 twin-engined Stol transport, expected to enter production this year in passenger-carrying and cargo versions. Appli cations and projects: Antonov An-lOA (4X4,000 e.h.p. AI-20K); Antonov An-12 (4X4,250 e.h.p. AI-20M); An tonov An-32 (2X5,180 e.h.p. AI-20M); Beriev Be-12 (2X 4,000 e.h.p. AI-20M specification Ten-stage compressor, annular com bustor, three-stage turbine. Integral front-located gearbox. Take-off 4,250 e.h.p., pressure ratio 7-6:1, mass flow 45-61b/sec, length 121 -8in, width 33-15in, height 46-5in, weight 2,2921b. AI-24 Single-shaft turboprop. Virtually a smaller version of the AI-20, this engine powers the An-24, An-26 and An-30 transports. The three main versions of the turbo prop are the 2,550 e.h.p. AI-24A and the 2,820 e.h.p. AI-24T and AI-24VT. AI-24T specification Ten-stage compressor, annular com bustor, three-stage turbine. Integral front-located gearbox. Take-off 2,800 e.h.p., pressure ratio 7-05:1, mass flow 31-71b/sec, length 92-4in, width 26-7in, height 42-3in, weight 1,3231b. AI-25 Two-shaft turbofan. Main production application of this engine has been the Yakovlev Yak-40 trijet feeder- liner, of which about 1,000 have been built. Apart from its use as the licence-built Walter Titan in the Czechoslo- vakian Aero L-39 trainer, the AI-25 has only one other application, the novel Mielec M-15 agricultural biplane. About 50 of these large crop-spraying aircraft are flying. There is also a possibiilty of ICX Aviation marketing the Aerospatiale Corvette with the AI-25 in countries outside America. AI-25 specification Three-stage fan, eight-stage h-p com pressor, annular combustor, single-stage h-p turbine, two- stage 1-p turbine. Take-off 3,3001b, bypass ratio 2:1, pres sure ratio 8-0:1, mass flow lOOlb/sec, length 78-5in, width 32 • 3in, height 35 • 2in, weight 6391b. Division of a public company engaged in shipbuilding, rolling stock, general engineering, aircraft and aero-engine manufacture. Corporate sales in 1977 up slightly to Y625,560 million (£1,673 million), of which aerospace sales were up 21 per cent and represented Y54,197 million (£145 million). " KHI is licence-manufacturing 1,100 s.h.p. Lycoming KT5311As and 1,400 s.h.p. KT5313Bs and T53-K-13Bs turboshafts at a modest rate for the Fuji/Bell HU-1B and Model 204B, the Fuji/Bell Model 204B/2 and the HU-1H respectively. Kawasaki is also participating (with IHI and Mitsubishi) in development of the FJ710 turbofan. The company overhauls aircraft engines and manufactures aircraft ground noise-suppressor installations. KHI will have cut its shipbuilding capacity by some 40 per cent by April this year. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ (West Germany) Gas Turbine Division, Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz AG. Divisional headquarters: Oberursel Works, Oberursel, Hohenmarkstrasse 60-70. Tel: (06171) 5 10 41. Division of public company with corporate activities covering the manufacture of commercial vehicles, diesel engines, tractors, construction machinery, industrial plant and aero engines. Corporate assets DM2,544 million (£674 million) and employees 27,560. Corporate sales up in 1977 to DM3,900 million (£1,033 million), of which aero-engine activities accounted for approximately five per cent. KHD had expected a less successful year in 1978 follow ing three clear years of growth in sales and profitability. KHD's aero-engine sector is mainly occupied with its 20 per cent participation in Larzac 04 turbofan production for the Franco-German Alpha Jet. In addition, the Gas Turbine Division has developed the T312 APU for the Panavia Tornado and is developing the 2301b-thrust T117 turbojet for the Canadair/Dornier CL89 AN/USD-502 drone. Type certification was scheduled to have been com pleted at the end of last year. Another project is the 80 h.p. T114A turboprop. KHD is also a partner with Garrett and Mack Trucks in Industrial Turbines International, which was established to develop a new 550 h.p. heavy- duty vehicle, industrial and marine gas turbine, the GT101. KOLESOV (USSR) This little known bureau, previously reported as "Koliesov," originally developed an alternative to the Kuznetsov NK-144 for the Tu-144. This appears to have been a large single>-shaft turbojet and not a variable-cycle engine, as previously understood. Unlike the Kuznetsov turbofan, the Kolesov turbojet was sized to enable super sonic cruise without the use of reheat. The engine was also fitted with cascade-type thrust reversers. As its cur rent main activity the Kolesov bureau is reported to have developed a liftjet for an unidentified "rocket-carrying" aircraft. KUZNETSOV (USSR) One of the first Soviet design bureaux to enter the gas- turbine field, Kuznetsov has concentrated almost ex clusively, but apparently with limited success, on large engines.
