FLIGHT International, 13 January 1979 99 Thinking Engine Health? -think Smiths Industries Smiths Industries has more than 25 years' experience in the design, development and manufacture of systems which measure and monitor predicted engine performance deterioration. A good example is the company's low cycle fatigue counter which measures engine life expectancy by registering normalised turbine- disc stress cycles. A single chip processor calculates the proportion of design life used during each power plant manoeuvre and continuously updates a counter. Or there's the metal particle detector system; a sensor and electronics unit monitors the presence of metal particles in an engine lubricating system and gives an immediate indication of the contamination changes. So, if you are thinking engine health- think Smiths Industries —the company with experience that counts. For further information on engine health monitoring write to the Technical Sales Manager (Engine Equipment), Smiths Industries Aviation Division, at the address below.
