FLIGHT International, 20 January 1979 207 K-Fast means quicker aircraft production ,-Tvl V A NUT tool developed by Kaynar (800 South State College Boulevard, Fuller- ton, Calif; telephone [714] 871-1550) could mean cheaper and faster air craft production. The K-Fast system substitutes threaded shear-pins and nuts for rivets in the manufacture of wing spars, fuselage panels and other lightweight structures. The automatic K-Fast attachment takes only four or five seconds to fit. The normal upset anvil is replaced by a nut runner, and machines can be returned to original riveting use in less than five minutes. The manufacturer claims increased production rates at several aircraft plants. Aluminium nuts, seal nuts, and nuts with assembled spherical washers can be fed automatically through. IMo overbooking with new airline reservation system SPERRY UNIVAC (2121 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington DC, tele phone [202] 338-8500; and 65 Holborn Viaduct, London EC1P 1AB, tele phone 01-236 1010) has developed a new airline reservation system which is claimed to protect passengers from overbooking. It is based on the 1100/ 43 computer and uses Mitsubishi reservation terminals. Operated by All Nippon at its Haneda computer centre, Resana (Reservation System for All Nippon Airways) is linked to 766 sales offices and agencies through out Japan. The system's passenger / name / record (PNR) facility is its most re markable characteristic, says Sperry. The names, telephone numbers, reser vation dates, ticket purchase details, routes and destinations, booking agents, and health status of more than two million passengers are stored for every flight up to a month ahead. Data for tour groups and honeymoon couples are recorded for up to a year in advance. Reservations are automatically can celled and seats re-offered when Pneumatic shut-off valves eliminated by new connector A NEW series of in-line and panel- mounting multi-tube connectors from Pneumatic Technology (PO Box 2177, Teaneck, New Jersey 07666; telephone [201] 891-2829) can connect or dis connect up to 12 pneumatic lines leak- free in lOsec. The connectors are designed for use with compressed air, industrial gas or vacuum. Integral check valves automatically close off the pressure supply when the threaded coupling halves are dis connected, eliminating the need for separate shut-off valves. The connector is made from machined PVC and the internal moving parts from Delrin acetal rod. Brass push-in tubes facilitate connec tion of pneumatic lines. booking/purchase conditions are not met. This avoids double booking and loss of revenue from "no show" pas sengers. The system also allows fre quent updates of flight information, and details of alternatives to fully booked services can be called up im mediately. Hotel bookings and flight, route and weather information are all available. All Nippon plans to introduce auto mated passenger reception at airports next year. The system may subse quently be linked to the SITA world wide airline communications network. INDUSTRY International Aircraft interiors group formed A COMPLETE aircraft interior package, from soft furnishings to galleys, is offered by the Aircraft Interior Manufacturers (AIM) Group, a consortium of four CAA-approved companies: W. Henshall, Fliteform, J. E. Clarke and Jetseats. Taken over last year by the Bovbourne Group, the Henshall com pany has since concentrated entirely on aerospace contracts. Mr S. J. Smith and Mr A. S. Lucking have been appointed directors.
