Airlink—zee Gatwlck Heathrow Airlink. Air Madagascar (Societe Nationale Mai-gache de Transports Aeriens) was formed on January 1, 1962, as the national airline of the Malagasy Repub lic. The company is owned 66 per cent by the Government and 34 per cent by Air France and Les Messageries Mari-times. Air Madagascar operates an ex tensive domestic network plus inter national routes to Paris, Marseilles and Rome via Djibouti. Regional services also link Tananarive with Nairobi, Dar es-Salaam, Maputo, the Comoro Islands, Mauritius, Reunion and the Seychelles. Air Malawi, the national airline of Malawi, was formed in March 1964 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Central African Airways. With the dissolution of CAA at the end of 1967, the airline separated entirely from its former partners, and is now wholly owned by the Government of Malawi. Air Malawi operates a twice-weekly intercontinen tal service from Blantyre to London Gatwick, one service via Amsterdam in both directions. Additionally, regional «ervires are operated to Johannesburg. Nairobi, Lusaka, Beira, the Indian Ocean Island of Mauritius, plus domestic services to Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Karon- ga. Air Mali (Societe Nationale Air Mali) was formed in October 1960 as the national airline of the Mali Republic. Operations betian in 1961 with technical and equipment assistance from Aeroffot. aided by a gift of three ex-BEA DC-3s from thie British Government. Air Mali operates scheduled passenger services from Bamako, the capital, to Abidjan, Aioun-el-Atro, Casablanca. Conakry, Freetown, Gao, Goundam. Major shareholders are the Maltese Government with 76-4 per cent, Pakistan International Air lines 20 per cent, Malta Airways 3 per cent and Cassar and Cooper Holdings 0-6 per cent. Services began in 1973 using aircraft chartered from British Airways, but independent operations started on April 1, 1974, with aircraft and assistance provided by PIA. Sche duled passenger and cargo services now link Luqa Airport near Valletta with London, Manchester, Rome, Paris, Lyon, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Brus sels, Zurich, Vienna, Cairo, Tripoli, Tunis, Dubai and Kuwait. Subsidiary companies include Air Malta Charter, Medallion Holidays, Air Supplies & Catering, Tigne Development, Selmun Palace Hotel and Hal Ferh Tourist Vil lage at Ghajn Tuffieha. Av* Malta Charter, a wholly owned sub sidiary of Air Malta, was formed in 1976 to operate charter and inclusive-tour services to Malta from European air ports, using Air Malta aircraft and per sonnel as required. Head Office: Europa Centre, Floriana, Malta. Air Martinique (Satair), formed in 1964, operates scheduled passenger services linking Fort de France with Bridgetown (Barbados) and Dominica. Air Mauritanie (Societe Nationale Air Mauritane) was formed in September 1962 as the national airline. Share holders are the Mauritanian Govern ment with 60 per cent, Air Afrique with 20 per cent and UTA with 20 per 1337 cent. Scheduled domestic passenger and cargo services are operated from Nouak chott and Nouadhibou, together with international routes to Dakar and Las Palmas. Pilots and mechanics are trained at the Hughes Airwest facility at Phoenix, Arizona, under a five-year contract signed in February 1974. Head Office: BP41, Nouakchott, Mauri tania. >"73. Major shareholders are the Government of Mauritius (42-5 per cent), Rogers & Co (17-5 per cent), British Airways Associated Companies (15 per cent), Air France (15 per cent) and Air-India (10 per cent). International services were originally operated in conjunction with British Airways, Air France and Air-India. On November 1, 1977, Air Mauri tius began operations in its own right, using a Boeing 707 wet-leased from British Airtours. Scheduled passenger and cargo services link Plaisance Inter national Airport with Nairobi, Rome, London, Tananarive, Reunion, Bombay and the adjacent island of Rodrigues. Air Micronesia was formed in 1966 to operate scheduled inter-island services within the US Trust Territory of the Pacific, which at that time encompassed the Marshall, Palau, Yap, Truk Ponape and Mariana groups of islands. In 1977 the Marianas separated and adopted the status of a Commonwealth of the United States. Services began in 1968 and these currently link Saipan with Tinian, Rota, Guam, Yap, Palau, Truk, Ponape, Kwajalein, Majuro, Johnston Island, Honolulu and, from October 1977, Tokyo. Service is authorised to Nauru, Okinawa, the Gilbert Islands, the Ellice Islands (Tuvalu), Pago Pago, Nandi, Auckland and Sydney but not SwIM
