10 FLIGHT International, 5 January 1980 CAA to discuss accident follow-up WHERE a recommendation from Britain's Chief Inspector of Accidents calls for action by the Civil Aviation Authority the response is, in future, to be published. It has been decided that people who receive the authority's Occurrence Digests or its General Aviation Safety Information leaflets will be given a summary of the Authority's responses. The CAA has taken as its first example the Aztec accident described in Flight for December 15, page 1996. Discussing the difficulty of feathering the pro peller of a light piston engine if the r.p.m. are too low, the CAA says that it is not possible to have feathering capability at all times on propellers that use centrifugal latches. Due men tion is made in the Aztec Flight Manual which states that feathering cannot be achieved from less than 1,000 r.p.m. The authority pubhshed Aeronautical Information Circular 9/79 to advise pilots about suitable propeller handling techniques. A quick-change conversion for the Let 410 turns the Czechoslovakian feederliner into a flying hospital capable of carrying six stretchers and six walking patients Ag-Cats move south AG-CAT production is to be moved from the Schweizer plant at Elmira, New York, to the main Gulfstream American factory at Savannah, Ga. At one time, when the manufacturer appeared to be divesting itself of all but Gulfstream and Hustler interests, it said that Schweizer had bought the design and production rights of the Ag-Cat. In the event this deal fell through and the parent company has now decided to sever a 20-year sub contract arrangement. The emphasis of Elmira production began to shift last month from com plete airframes to parts and these are mainly to ensure product support dur ing the changeover. The last complete Ag-Cat will come off the Elmira line in May 1980 but it will be the end of the year before a new aircraft emerges from the jigs at Savannah. Gulfstream stresses that "a plentiful and uninterrupted supply of spare parts is assured" and adds that orders for them should continue to be placed through the existing Ag-Cait distribu tor organisation. vK :• s §§HH Business AND LIGHT TRANSPORT IMJJSiKfir CSE opens Stansted base DOORS opened for business for the first time at the new Stansted base of CSE Aircraft Services last Tuesday, January 1.
