FLIGHT International, II February 1981 Thomson-CSF has been developing the cathode ray tube (CRT) symbology in close co-operation with Airbus and the launch customers. Above left The primary flight display (WD) comprises an attitude director, airspeed and height information and a flight-mode annunciator. The yellow airspeed symbol gives the airspeed as IZ7kt, rising towards the selected speed of I38kt (blue arrow). The green 'At' indicates the minimum manoeuvring speed, while the orange rectangle is the minimum selectable speed. The stall speed and zone are red. barometric height is given as 290ft, compared with the radio height of 250ft and decision height of 100ft. This height information is not compatible with the speed data, but is shown as an example. Above right The map mode of the navigation display (NO) also doubles as a weather radar. In this case the heading is 228° (yellow triangle) and the track is 237°, the wind being easterly at 20kt. Croundspeed and true airspeed are given at top left, while the next waypoint is Korinthos, 8 n.m. away on a track of 238°. The aircraft is 1-2 n.m. to the right of track. Target level and speed at Korinthos are flight level 110 and 240kt. Below left The warning display component of the electronic centralised aircraft monitor (Ecam) issues warnings of malfunctions. After the crisis has passed, the pilot selects this status display showing which systems are disabled, in order of importance. Below right The systems display gives schematic routine information throughout the flight, and it has an alert mode like this. In this example, the fuel in the outer tanks has fallen to a very low level, which is emphasised by the red pointers 1J v D YOU RLR'NDf DAMPER CARGO DOOR FLAP API •S/SLATS AVAIL F $TO I US MCY LOS! 1+2 INOP INOP ; SLOW LAPS/SLATS EXT Right The glare- shield autopilot and flight director control, which uses light- emitting diode dis plays, is flanked by the selectors for the PFD (flight display) and the ND (naviga tion display).
