CAAC—The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC), estab lished in 1962, superseded the Civil Aviation Administration of China (also known as CAAC), formed in 1949 after the founding of the People's Republic. Skoga, the joint Si no-Soviet undertak ing formed in 1950 to operate air ser vices between the two countries, was dissolved in 1955. CAAC controls all civil aviation activities in China, including the current domestic network of more than 160 routes with a total length of some 190,000km and with scheduled ser vices to all 29 provinces and autono mous regions except Taiwan Province. International services currently link China with 17 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America, with a total stage length of about 90,000km. Points served from Peking are Pyongyang, Rangoon, Hanoi, Moscow, Paris, Karachi, Frankfurt, Addis Ababa, Sharjah, Lon don, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagasaki, Bucharest, Zurich and Belgrade. Regional services connect points on inland China and Hong Kong. The air line also undertakes an extensive range of non-airline activities such as air ambulance, agricultural and forestry flights, and air freight services, all directly connected with the national de velopment of industry and agriculture. Cameroon Airlines (Cam-Air) was formed on July 26, 1971, following the decision of the Cameroun Government to withdraw its support from the Air Afrique consortium on January 22, 1971. The new airline began operations on November 1, and the route network now covers international passenger services from Douala to Yaounde, Bangui, Coto- nou, N'Djamena, Abidjan, Brazzaville, Lagos, Lome, Libreville, Kinshasa, Bujumbura, Nairobi, Geneva, Rome, Marseille, and Paris, together with an extensive domestic route system. Stock holders are the Cameroun Govern ment with 75 per cent and Air France, which is providing technical assistance, with 25 per cent. Capitol International Airways was formed in 1946 as a supplemental car rier, and since 1968 has been a public corporation. Passenger charter and military contract flights are operated, primarily across the North Atlantic. In September 1978, under the deregulation policy, Capitol was granted scheduled service authority from New York to San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Juan and Brussels. Cargo Air Lines (CAL) was formed in June 1976 to operate freight charter flights from Tel-Aviv to points in Europe, carrying mainly perishable agricultural products. Operations began in November 1976. Major stockholders are the Corporative Society for Jewish Labour Settlement (56 per cent), Pro duction and Marketing Board of Orna mental Plants (18 per cent), Vegetables Production and Marketing Board (18 per cent) and the Fruit Board of Israel (8 per cent). Fleet: one Boeing 747-200F, one 747- r- 200C, two 747-100F. * Cargomasters Australia was formed in 1980 to operate all-cargo services within Australia. Shareholders are W. S. Astling (formerly connected with the defunct Air Express and also BBA Air Cargo) and Alaska International Air (with a 40 per cent holding). Operations were expected to begin around Easter 1981 using a Lockheed L-100-30 Hercules leased from Alaska International. Cargolux Airlines International was established on March 4, 1970, and began operations in May that year. The airline operates regular cargo flights to the Middle East, Far East, Africa, Australia and the USA as well as worldwide cargo charter flights. Shareholders are Flug- leidir Icelandair, the Salen Shipping company, Luxair and a group of private Luxembourg interests, the latter with the majority shareholding. Cargolux also performs contract maintenance for other airlines and operates sub-leasing services. The airline has an interest in Aero Uruguay. Head Office: Findel Airport, Luxem bourg. -*-2272.
