FLIGHT International, 6 June 1981 Briefings... • This year has been dubbed "Inter national Year of the Disabled", and a group of pilots from the Bannerdown Gliding Club at RAF Hullavington, Wilts, are planning a round-England fund-raising glider flight called Nation- glide. They aim to raise enough money to buy and operate a two-seat glider for the disabled. The sponsored flight is scheduled to start from Hullavington in June and a series of 80-100 mile legs is planned. Slingsby has offered a Sport Vega and a trailer made by Angus Fleming. Donations should be sent to Nation- glide, Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (Radar), 25 Mor timer Street, London WIN 8AB. • The Leicestershire Aero Club is holding its 5th International Challenge Competition Weekend on June 6 and 7. Dating back to 1929, the club is one of the oldest in the UK and aims to recreate the sort of social atmosphere and competition spirit found in the Thirties. Competitions include naviga tion and spot landing exercises, and the annual aerobatic contest for Cessna Aerobats. The International Auster Pilot Club, which now repre sents several hundred owners around the world, will be holding a fly-in and its annual general meeting. Contact Great Glen 2360/2909. • The Shuttleworth Collection will be holding one of its special flying even ings on June 6, marking the 70th an niversary of the formation of the Air Batallion of the Royal Engineers— predecessors of the Royal Flying Corps and later RAF. Two key types flown by the Royal Engineers were the 1909 Bleriot XI and the 1910 Bristol Boxkite, and Shuttleworth in tends to fly its examples of these if the hoped-for calm conditions of a summer evening materialise.
