1838 International Air Tattoo preview FINAL touches are now being made to arrangements for the International Air Tattoo (RAF Greenham Common, Newbury, Berks—June 27-28). Featur ing aircraft from more than 20 air arms, the event includes Sea Search 81, the first international maritime- pat rol/search-and-rescue meet. The fixed-wing types will compete to locate, identify and photograph targets around the UK south-western peninsula: a similar helicopter con test will include a winching event. A series of displays and exhibits will be mounted by the maritime industries team and other organisations identi fied with Sea Search 81. The two-day air display, now estab lished as the biggest and best military show in the world, sees Europe's six military aerobatic formation teams meeting for the first time since the 1976 event, which brought them together for the first time. The Patrouille de France will perform in their new Alpha Jets. The Red Arrows (RAF Hawks), II Frecce Tricolor! (Italian Air Force Fiat G.91s), Kara As (Austrian Air Force Saab 105s), Patrouille Suisse (Swiss Hunters) and Swallows (Belgian Air Force SF.260s) all appear. Air forces taking part, some for the first time, are expected to include Argentina, Austria, Belgium. Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France. Greece, Italy, Jordan, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Swit zerland, and the USA. Among the galaxy of current aircraft, the organ isers hope to include Tornado F.2.
