INDUSTRY WHO'S NEWS Royal Aeronautical Society Awards: Handel Davies, former BAe tech nical director, is elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and Air Chief Marshal Sir Douglas Lowe becomes a Companion. These are among the awards for 1982 made by the society at the recent Wright Memo rial Lecture, which also marked the retirement of Jim Schaffter as secretary. Davies is honoured for "his long and distinguished con tribution to aviation, both in the public service and in in dustry", and Lowe for his "outstanding leadership in the field of military aircraft procurement". Medal awards are as follow: GOLD MEDAL: Ronald Hills, for his outstanding contribution to aerodynamics research over many years, and for his leadership in the development of windtunnels. SILVER MEDAL: Ken neth Lawson, for his dedi cated work in the field of aero dynamic design and his First man to fly a Tornado, BAe Warton director flight operations Paul Millett, ends a most distinguished test-flying career by flying the 100th Tornado off the Warton line. He now takes command of BAe's £1,300 million Saudi Arabian operations, in charge of 1,800 expatriates in three centres. He is succeeded by David Eagles. On the right is divisional m-d Frank Roe leadership in the definition of aircraft projects. BRONZE MEDAL: Philip Brotherhood, for his con siderable contribution in the field of helicopter flight- research. The Amulree Committee Awards: BRITISH GOLD MEDAL: Basil Blackwell, for an out standing contribution over many years to British aviation and in particular for his leadership in the helicopter industry. BRITISH SILVER MEDAL: Cyril Bethwaite, in recognition of his out standing work in aircraft de sign and development over a long period, culminating in leadership of the BAe 146 project. WAKEFIELD GOLD MEDAL: John Yeomans, for his leadership in the field of flight simulators. R. P. ALSTON MEDAL: Michael Goodfellow, in recog nition of his distinguished contribution as a test pilot, in cluding the flight-testing of the HS.125 and BAe 146. ALAN MARSH MEDAL: Lt Cdr N. Arnall-Culliford, RN, for his work at the Royal Aircraft Establishment as a helicopter test pilot and for his practical contribution to the advancement of helicopter operating techniques in poor visibilitv.
